Subject: Mod woes - $$ spent IP: Logged
Message: I wish I would have left the stock truck (2003 4.7 CC 4X4) alone. It ran the best and got the best mileage with the OEM tires and no mods. Just put the HO cams in last month and highway mileage is now down to 13.5 at 65. Before cams it got 15 - 15.5. The 267X75X16 tires I added look good but definetly hurt the mileage (raised truck/wind ressistance and took the engine out of its torque zone). As far as the Gibson and K&N----couldn't tell a thing as far as increased performance(truck does sound better). So after about $1000.00 I wish I had left it alone. Just venting. Anyone else come to this conclusion?

Message: Don't feel too bad, you're not the first, and certainly won't be the last to get nothing from some mods.
I don't see the cams hurting mileage, unless it made your right foot heavier. Enjoy the look and sound!

Message: What was your original tire size? What is your differential ratio? If you have the 3.55, maybe a gear swap would be a good idea. It is expensive, but well worth the money. The new tires that you put on made your diff more like 3.45 and that's if you had the optional 265/70/r16 tires. If you had the 245/70/r16, then the change brings your ratio down to feel like 3.3. If you swap out the current gears for 3.92's or even the 4.11, it will make a significant difference. There will be much less strain on the engine yeilding better gas mileage, and much better acceleration. Your RPM's will be brough back to around 2K at around town with O/D off and 2k on the highway with the O/D on. The cams make a big difference from 2k and up.

Message: I had the 245/70/16 tires with 3.92 gears. Went to the 265/75/16s. Truck turns at about 1900 RPM at 70. I'll have to try using the OD off in town and see what happens.
