Sorry but I'm about to give up on the old R/T. I have the M1, FIPK, and 52mm F&B. I got spanked tonight by a old POS chevy blazer tonight with gold spoke getto rims on it. It had some goofy dual exhaust on it from what I could see, and sounded like crap. But I got beat. I didn't think we were racing at first but he launched off the line after I tried him by reving my motor, and I couldn't catch him for sh%t. My confidence in the R/T is down big time after that.

Dude, I have taken two Jags and a Mustang this past week in my 4x4 1995 CC V8. Your R/T should be able to clobber that punk! All I have on my truck is a K&N air filter, Tornado Air, Bosch Platinum 4's, nice plug wires and a nice distributor. No turbo, no exhaust (that will change in July), no nothing. Get out there and kick his butt. Show ghetto who's boss.

Don't quit yet. Keep in mind it's "monkey see, monkey do" with the tuner crowd and the Fast and the Furious is their roadmap. At one time someone might have used it like a truck and thrown some money into the engine or powertrain. Couple that with small wheels(lower gear ratio) and a lot of "naws" and youre up against a road terror. Its probably ill maintained and will blow up pulling this stunt someday so you may not have to worry about it, you win some, you loose some, no big deal. If you realy want to whip up on the unsuspecting, change your wheels to lightwight ARs or equivalent to reduce unsprung weight and go with a smaller diameter tire to increase your gear ratio. Use some of the other hop up tricks posted on this board and have fun.

When he first rolled up he was reving his motor and stuff and I was like whatever dude. So when we started out I didn't launch hard or anything and then I see this idiot launch like a bat outta hell, so then I just mashed the gas thinking I was already rolling so I wouldn't spin, not the case at all(bald RSAs). I was watching him pull away in his lil ghetto ride while I was sitting in place, I think thats why it was so frustrating because I knew if I would have just raced balls out from the get go I would have killed him.

I hope you aren't refering to a 93 Rustang 5.0. Those POS can't get out of their own way. Friday night at Pueblo, CO, PMI Speedway I ran 2 of your almighty Rustangs heads up, and beat both, not once each but 2 times on 1 and three times on the other. They didn't fair as well against me as the WRX I destroyed twice and the Acura Integra that fell by the wayside twice.

Oh and by the way, I don't even have a 5.9L engine, I got a dwarfed V-8, 4.7L (287 ci).

LOL! Mustangs are pathetic and should not even be classified as a challenge unless it's an older model, say 60's or 70's. Same with Jaguar. Ford bought them in 1988 and took out the airplane motors (inline 6's!!) and replaced them with small V's. Granted, my roommate's inline 6 1987 Jag gets left at takeoff every time, I swear that thing has no top-end! We were at 150 and the engine wasn't even close to winding out!

Anyways, I've now taken three Jags (Ford-made), two Mustangs (one just this morning!), and several other cars, such as Probes, Preludes, etc. Haven't gotten the chance to try a Porsche yet, and I expect to lose, having a 4x4 geared for power and towing, but it'll still be fun!

Are you guys nuts? Mustangs are not all slow. I guess you have never ran into any 87-91 LX 5 liter stangs. If you run into one now, don't forget, they are all beat to hell by now. They are around 15 years old. But, when they were new they would smoke an R/T or 4.7 Dak easily. It was not uncommon for one of those LX's to run 13.8 or 13.9 bone stock with the optional 3.08 gears and a 5 speed. The autos are kind of slow I admit. Take that 5 speed lx and remove the air baffle, set timing to 15 degrees, remove the front sway bar and throw on a set of drag radials and hello 13.4's. They also only cost around 10 grand back then. I paid 10,100 for my brand new 87 LX 5 liter with 3.08's,5 speed and tilt wheel. The only car that ever beat me was a slightly modded GN. I sold that stang and bought a GN.

No sh*t! If they're beating Stangs, badly, the Stangs are either worn out, or were actually SIX CYLINDER Stangs dressed up in the V8/GT badging which is oh so popular here in Phoenix.

Take a good listen to one before you assume it was a V8.

BTW, a new V6 one with duals, etc tried to race my 4.7 4X4 the other day and it was very hard to keep in front of him. A GT (265 HP) would beat me, and a Mach1 (310HP) or a Cobra (390 HP) would have KILLED me or a R/T. Period.
And the older FOX bodies can be built into 10 second machines for what you can get Daks into the 13's. Sad but true. But I like my Dak. My Dak can go off road, tow my Quad, and still hang in there on the street!!!

U people are being a tad too ridiculous. Are you all claiming that your stock or slightly modded RTs will beat newer style GTs? C'mon. No. When you run up behind one and pass him, sorry, that wasnt a race. When you take off at a light and he idles off, no, you didn't beat him, he wasnt racing you. If a GT did race you, you'd loose. We all know track times, don't come and lay down so much BS. If your all running supercharged 5.9s or nitrous great, go embarrass some stangs, otherwise, embarrass youselves and continue to post ridiculous claims. Good point 03Dak, if you are beating these things, they are V6's with GT badging.

Don't get me wrong. I love my dakota and I like the R/T. They are pretty quick for a truck. They also look real nice. But, a new GT will KILL an R/T in a drag. I should clearify that statement. A new 5 speed GT will kill an R/T. A GT convertible with an automatic tranny would probably be a pretty good race for an R/T though.

Don't give up on the R/T...who buys one to keep it "nearly" stock anyways? When my 99 CC R/T was brand new I raced my buddies 98 4.6l mustang and it was a good race, neither of us could pull ahead. Now I have a Vortech blower and some other mods (no NOS) and last week I completely spanked a Ford Harley Davidson edition. Not like it is that impressive but I was just tired of the Ford guys talking sh*t. Oh yeah, my belly pan is blown and I still spanked him badly.

gg, you from Phoenix?
You gotta know there's a LOT of false badged Mustangs running around.
I ESPECIALLY hate ones with COBRA emblems that are NOT Cobras! BIG difference between a GT and a COBRA, like 135 HP or so!!! In Phoenix, you never KNOW anymore what is for REAL and what is FAKE!!!

yates-in-DE said "I don't know the last time you was at the track 03Dak, but it's kind of Normal to open the hood to Cool down between rounds".

I'm not sure what you were referring to? I don't remember saying ANYTHING about that. However I've even seen people open the hood with bags of ICE on the intake.

Now, as far as TRUCKS go, I think Dakota's are KICK A$$! I love my Dak, even tho it is a 4.7, it sounds very good I think.
But 5.0's that lose to them are STOCK and still would be a close race.
But you can build a 5.0 REALLY cheap to KILL any stock R/T.

I know, I had an early 80's , carberated 302 (5.0) with under $1k in it (doing all work myself of course) that would KILL any stock or mildly modded R/T. Hell, you'd have to have LOTS of JUICE for an R/T to keep up with my old Stang. Just admit it, Stangs are DIRT cheap to make FAST.

There's just a lot of idiots driving some of them who make Stangs look bad. Either that, or like people say, the Stang drivers didn't know they were in a race LOL!!!!

03Dak, my reference was that the Rustangs I ran were not falsely badged. Both of them had 5.0L Engines and was GT's 5 Speeds. One even had a Vortec S/C bolted in. I tried to convince him not to run it any more till he got some new 24 # Fuel Injectors and some kind of boosta pump, or new fuel pump. It was leaning out around 4500 RPM's and bogging down, then pinging. (I kept seeing this image of a roll back picking him up to tote him home after he blowed the tops out of a couple pistons) Hey, I can only give advice, I can't make him tune it right. And yeah, I've helped a couple freinds tune their 5.0L's to run OK, but I'm not impressed with them, they are a lot lighter, larger motor than I but struggle to get away from me (even after MO MODS). And I can pull the 16 ft trailer with their cars on them to get them to the track, and then race with them.

Joey, the GT you saw at the track runnnig 14.7's must have been an automatic or a crappy driver trying to drive a 5-speed. Motertrend tested these new stangs and got 14.2's. 5.0 mag. got 13.9's out of the new GT. There is no way that a stock (4.7 or 5.9) or sligtly modified dakota can beat a new GT with a 5-speed(with a good driver) And for yates, I own a 91 5.0 auto(slowest mustang except for a convertable) with a few bolt owns and 176,000 miles and beat my brothers 4.7 5-speed 3.92. he ran a 14.7 at 91mph(fastest stock dakota i ever seen, beats r/ts all the time) and I ran a 14.5 at 94mph. I have to admit that his truck is fast, but I still had one of the slowest 5.0s and still beat him.
