Subject: New exhaust plus cutout IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, few questions. I got A 97 CC 4x4 w/5.2 i just did a home brew intake and im getting a k&n drop in tomorrow. I want to put on a cat back exhaust system. What is the best system for added performance. I hear that duals lower your low end torque, and that the single out with a high flow muffler is the best way to gain power. whats the best system for this? also i want to put a cut out on the exhaust after the cat and before the muffler. can i do this to any system or do i have to find a system that coems with one. i want to do an electronic cut out that i can change from the cab, how much would this cost? is it illegal to HAVE a cut out on my truck in iowa? i know its illegal to not use a muffler, but if i got pulled over for some reason and they saw the cut out would i get in trouble even tho it wasnt open? is there a way to sort of hide the pipe after the cutout so i dont have one pipe in the regular place and one coming out by the passenger door? sorry if these ?'s sound dumb, im just doing some homework on the subject. thanx

Message: i dont think there is a catback system out there that will make you gain a whole lot of power by itself, its all about the mods you use with the exhaust...i have a flowmaster 40 series dual 2 1/4" outlets and a home brewand i havent noticed any loss of power low or high end...as for the cut out, you can buy one at numerous places online for anywhere between $25-$50 and you could probly take it in to a muffler shop and they could intall it for you with cost of labor...you might want to put it more towards the front if you're worried about losing low end...

Message: Where do i get these electric exhaust cutouts? i dont want to have to crawl under the truck to change the cutout, i wanna be able to open it up when a punk in a civic revs his engine at me, but have it closed as i drive past a cop. so i need the electric one.exactly how do these things get installed? if i buy an exhaust system from my local muffler shop, do i just give them the cutout and they can put it on the system? or do i have to get a certain exhaust system that can use cutouts........as you can c im a little confused on this.

Message: McCord Power Plate: http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/mpp.htm
Let him know I referred you. I ran a group buy through there awhile back.
You still need to buy the ~$35 cutout pipe from Summit Racing and have it welded into your system. The McCord Power Plate just bolts up to the flange, and then you route the wiring up the firewall and into the cab. I installed my switch into my dash.
