Subject: Z-Tube Inspection Legal? IP: Logged
Message: I don't mean to be redundant to previous posts, but does anyone here have any idea if the Z-tube is legal in PA for State Inspection?
I have seen other posts here regarding the air raid and that even though the truck will pass the sniffer test, the visual inspection will fail because it is a non-OEM emissions part.
Do most of you guys who have z-tubes just reinstall the airhat/airbox assbly prior to inspection? If so, how long does that take?
Lastly, is there also an increase in mpg with the z-tube in the 4.7L V8? Other posts indicate a 10-13increase in hp, but I did not see any mpg data.
Thanks,
John Manko

Message: I can't see why it would fail, as long as it passes emissions, but you have a point. I'm planning on getting one as soon as I can sneak a little cash past the wife. She's still simmering about the Gibson cat-back exhaust (grin)
As far as MPG goes, I've seen posts on the DML quoting 1-2 MPG gain, which is believable. Add that to the 2-ish gain from the exhaust that I'm already seeing, and you've got respectable numbers coming from a V-8. I just turned 20.87 MPG returning from Kitty Hawk, NC last week. BTW, I'm in McCandless, just south of you.

Message: I installed the Z tube on my 4.7 Dodge Dakota QC a few days ago and along with better performance gas mileage is up between 2-3 miles per gallon.
As far as removal of the Z Tube and reinstall of the stock air box, well, it would be an easy thing to do and would take about 20 minutes.

Message: Ooops, I forgot to mention that gas mileage up between 2 and 3 miles per gallon was noted after install of BORLA straight through muffler and the Z tube. Bill in NY
