Message: Fast 2.5L: Have fun with that little engine. Who cares if its a 4cyl. I'm pretty sure pace setter does make a header for the 2.5L. Its listed for the Jeep though I bet it will fit. I think mopar makes a cam for it. You should really focus on the suspension. Hotchkis TVS, some good shocks, some light weight rims (centerline maybe), but don't get to large on the diameter, get a roadmaster active suspension, and probably some 3.92 gears and an LSD. If you can't be that fast at least you can be quick.
As far as the engine goes, turbo city is probably your best bet for performance. Get a high flow cat (carsound) and a cat back (magnaflow or gibson). Go for quiet cause loud will just sound ricey on a 4cyl. Get the throttle body (probably the 4.0L), the header from pace setter, and if you can find the cam get that as well. You could look into getting the intake manifold ported maybe. And look into the ASE chip.
If all else fails and you get exhausted trying to put power into it at least your suspension will be ready for a small block V8 like a 5.2L or 4.7L.
Good luck!

Message: ey fast 2.5, dont sweat these guys everyone has a different opinion about speed/power and if your truck is fine for you then thats great because most of these people (including me) need to spend silly amounts of money that well never get back to tweak our v-8's and then hit the pump with our 12mpg beasts every other day.
Ok as far as your mods go scrap the spacer and look into a decent set (jba/msd) set of wires and ignition (crane/msd) and FOR SURE see if you can bump up to 3.96 gears in the rear, out of all the mods your looking at the gears will make the immediate biggest difference.
The rest of you stop bashing him and his truck man, it's what he could afford and it's NOT a ranger so who cares man I swear you guys can act like women at the hair salon sometimes.
later man, good luck with your truck!

Message: I really like the idea of making it handle, what hurts our bigger trucks is te nose wieght, the weight distribution has gotta be great on that truck. I would go with that was stated, lower it, maybe an x-brace or something to stiffen it up and go hunting cars in the curves man... jsut remember that half of a typical race is holding your speed through the curves, not jsut accelerating out of them!@!!!

Message: ok, i went back to turbocity and they have seperate TBs for the 2.5 and 4.0, so i will get the one for the 4.0. I couldn't find a cat-back for the dak there, but truckperformance.com has a 2.5l dak cat-back for 300 bucks and the pacesetter header for 150 about. Then v8performance.com (anyone know where i can get that grille on the dak they have on thier homepage?) has 3.91 gears for 230, but i need to know what my rear end size is, do you guys know? And what about a 180 thermo?

Message: ok, about the a/c now and how it robs power when turned on. at v8performance.com, they have a Flex-a-lite Black Magic 150 fan whci allows you to remeove your a/c clutch fan keeping you form losing horsepower when the a/c is on, should i get this too. it would help since i live in phoenix.

| RE: well, tell me what you think.. IP: Logged
Message: its not the fan that causes you to loose power when your a/c is on (although it robs power too), its the drag that the a/c compressor puts on the serpentine belt system. When you turn your a/c on it starts the compressor and the crank has to turn a little harder to move that extra accessory. You wont loose as much power if your a/c is off but the only way to get rid of any negative effect would be to get rid of the a/c compressor (such as getting a belt that's for non-a/c trucks and bypasss the compressor).
The clutch fan is used to pull air through the radiator to help cool the motor down. Now, if i remember correctly, the four cylinder daks have an electric fan on them already and have no need to get a black magic fan.

Message: well i can tell you that there is a big difference in hp when the ac is on vs off. Anyway, after reading all of yoru replies, here is the list then of parts i'm getting...
1) Gibson Exhaust
2) High-Flow Rockit TB (searched car-parts.com, none here in phx and all cost over 100 anyway)
3) Pacesetter header
4) 3.92 gears (should i go for 4.10?)
5) 180 thermo
6) MSD/JBA ignition and wires
7) Jet Chip stage 2
I would like to put a cam and cat. converter as well, but i am having trouble finding them. If anyone knows where that would be great. What kind of gas mileage should i get after all this if i average abotu 20 mpg now?

Message: fast 2.5L,
Don't forget about doing the basics, spark plugs, cap and rotor (brass contacts). I admit I don't know much about the 4 banger but the usual performance basics are the same for any engine. I remember going to a car show once and seeing a bad a$$ Mopar(I don't remember the model) but it was sweet paint job and chromed to the max. I looked in the engine bay and it was chromed out straight 6. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Have fun moding up your dak.

Message: Fast 2.5L: I'd avoid chrome if I were you. Being a 4cyl every pound is going to count. Adding chrome adds pounds. If you want to add some good looks get some polished billet rims from centerline or somethin like that. They are very light. I wouldn't go any larger than 17in either. As far as a drop goes...the Hotchkis TVS is the best. It will make your light 4cyl handle like a race car (I didn't say as fast as a race car).
V8performance.com can probablyget you that cat you are looking for. Its definitley worth it. buymopar.com can probably get you the cam. That or one of the jeep sites probably can. The gears may effect your highway mileage a little but probably help your city mileage some. I'd stick with the 3.92's. What kind of gears do you have now? You'll probably want to look into a limited slip dif as well. This will help you get more traction on the ground.
Also definitely look into the Roadmaster Active Suspension. This will help with traction and body roll in a big way. It will also work with the Hotchkis TVS.

Message: If you decide to bypass the ac compressor, you should also take off the ac condensor. this will save you som weight. Also relocating the battery to the box will also help with weight distribution. I would try and find some underdrive pulleys as well, this will help you make the most of the power you have.
