Subject: Which exhaust is best? IP: Logged
Message: I'm about to run straight pipes on my R/T but I'm not sure if i want to. I want an exhaust that will sound good. I'd like to get a little bit of HP and get a deep sound. But which is the best? Also, I'd want a muffler that has duals running out. Thanks in advance,
-Matt

Message: There is no one that can tell you witch is best, there are a few good names gibson fartmaster etc comes down to what sound you like. I put a magnoflow on my 4.7 gave it a little more pep and sounds 10 times better than the fartmaster i had on before it.

Message: I would recomend the flowmaster. I have a flowmaster 50 series on my 3.9 v6 and it sounds great, so it should do the R/T even more justice. But is does come down to personal opinion. I have heard alot of different exhaust systems and they all sound good, I just have always loved the flowmaster sound. From old hotrods to new streetrods. One of these days I am going to get some sound files on my website, so that people can realy hear-before-you-buy. If anyone has any audio files, please e-mail me so that we can answer the ever lasting question of which sounds better.

Message: I have a '97 cc 5.2 Dak with a Flowmaster. I have cut the cat and put a 40 series 2 chamber Flow on with 2 - 2.5" turndowns right after the cab. It sounds great, very muscular rumble at low rpm's and its so friggin loud when you get in it. My only regret is sometimes the inside cab resonance can be hard to talk on a cell or to a passenger. For the cat being gone - I purchased a o2 sensor simulator - makes the computer think it has a sensor to tell the correct feul mixture. Everything has worked great - runs good, and sounds good. There isn't nothing funner than to ride through a crowded parking lot setting off alarms with only your exhaust.....oooh gotta love it!

Message: It really depends on where you want to go with your mods...
If you plan to stay N/A, then go to a true dual setup with an X crossover pipe for some good flow and better sound. If you mod in the correct way (all the airflow stuff), you'll gain good power and actually get slightly better mileage (if you stay out of the pedal).
If you're going to boost your engine, then go to a large single outlet exhaust (high flowing)...

Message: Well guys, I got a Borla exhaust put on my truck. At first, I only had the muffler put on (single in/dual out) and it sounded loud as hell! I liked that way. Then the day after, I had duals put on and now its alot quieter! Its not as loud as it was before! What can I do to make that exhuast louder and keep the duals? Should I cut off my catalytic converter? or if i do that will the "check engine" light come on? Thanks guys for all of your posts....they all have been very helpful
Thanks,
-Matt

Message: The Cuda style MBRP exhaust is by far the best system to install on your RT. That 5.9 will really rumble. It's a little expensive, but you won't be disapointed!

Message: Holy crap straight pipes is WAY too loud LOL!!!
The last time I did that (on a car with no emmissions, Cats, etc) was on a fairly nasty 350 Chevy with true duals off of the headers all the way out to the back. It was SOOOO loud I let someone drive it away from my house I used to live in and I could hear it go up the highway at LEAST a half mile away! It was EMBARESSING it was sooo loud. It was OVERKILL and I added glass packs to it the next day.
Now GLASSPACKS are something to consider. They deffinitely rumble at an idle and get FRIGGING LOUD on the throttle!!!
I think the FLOWMASTER is a good compramise if you want to be heard but would like to hear your stereo or talk to a passenger at the same time!!!

Message: I put about 80,000 miles on a Flowmaster 50 (16" long), it was fine with the stock cat., but louder with a Catco cat., on my '92 5.2. Later put on 70 series (also called Big Block), 22" long, single in/ dual out, also. No performance difference, but real pleasant to live with, no more floorboard noise; similar sound out back as the 50. Enjoyed the 70 so much, I wasted little time putting same cat-back duals on my '01 4.7.

I still think they sound awesome!
Maybe people prefer unproven chrome Taiwan crap these days??? (APC, etc)

Message: Im not sure if I have even heard an MBRP yet, But I know what a flowmaster sounds like and I love it. I hate the duals on trucks that sound like they are making popcorn in a tin can at full throttle. Flowmaster has always been here for 2 reasons. Performance and Sound. If my V6 sound good with flowmaster I am sure any V8 will.

Yeah, scaring old ladies and small children is fun with your loud exhaust. But showing RICERS what a throaty exhaust is SUPPOSED to sound like is even better!!! My 4.7 is all stock except the louder exhaust. And those Ricers with their fart cans always take notice when I come rumbling by! They have a tear in their eye just knowing their fart can will never sound sooo good!

My little secret trick! :-)
It's in mp3 format, if you're on a dial up it may take a few seconds before playing. If you don't hear it, click "F5" key to refresh.

Message: I've heard a lot of good things regarding the MBRP and spintech. We are rebuilding the 360 in my dad's '99 RT with a low mileage stock shortblock and the lightning killer package from KRC. I don't personally know which of these two systems would be better for that setup (we have later plans for adding a 100 shot of N20 and rebuilding the existing shortblock with forged 408 internals.) Oh, and I've also heard of a large, 3.5" diameter single exhaust. Soooo, my question is, in order to NOT have to do this twice, what do you all suggest? Anyone have the single 3.5" or the spintech dual?
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
