Subject: What's a z-tube? IP: Logged
Message: What's a z-tube, where do I get one, and why is it better than say the K&N Gen. II cold air intake? I've had a couple of folks reccomend them....just wondering.

Message: The tubes on that site look like the same HOT air intake they sell everyday at the local Checker auto parts store!!!
What a RIP!!!!
Save yourself a LOT of money and make your own.
Just make sure you take the air from OUTSIDE of the engine compartment! Those intakes hanging in behind the radiator are a P.O.S.! They get HOT and MUCH less dense air than your factory intake.

Message: Actually, Intense Performance intakes are ceramic coated. Not painted silver like the cheapos. They also have a cold air intake that draws from the grill on the Stage III, not from behind the radiator. I have the Stage III for the 318 and have been very happy with it. One day I noticed that the intake tube felt very hot, so I disconnected the filter and put my hand inside and it was quite a bit cooler, so the ceramic does work. Maybe you should do some research before you go badmouthing someone's product. Another thing, I broke the intake trying to wedge it in the wrong way while installing it. I emailed John @ Intense and he sent a new one free. Even though I told him it was my fault. He even paid for the shipping. It's not often you find that level of CSR. It's a great product and a great company. I know several people who have them, and haven't heard a single negative comment from any of them. So you can take the word of someone who is just flapping his gums, or from someone who actually uses the product. You decide.

Message: Well I haven't purchased one of those myself.
But as for research, I checked out that very link that was posted to the website.
Now looking at the PICTURES ON THEIR WEBSITE I can TELL that it takes HOT A$$ air if they are installed as per PICTURES ON THEIR WEBSITE!!!
I hope you don't consider THIS cold air intake!!!

Message: I'm right here. You don't have to yell. Once again, your research is flawed. Notice I said the Stage III is a cold air intake. You just showed me a picture of a Stage II, and no, I don't consider THAT a cold A$$ air intake. They don't show it in the picture, but the Stage III comes out beside the radiator and pulls air from outside the engine compartment on the standard intake and from the passenger side fender on the Z-Tube. I don't know how to link a picture on this site, but you can go to the following and see a picture of a Stage III Z-Tube. http://www.intenseperformance.com/products/Stage/Mike_mhejl_ZTube1_7inch.jpg
Or here to see the Stage III for the 5.2. http://www.intenseperformance.com/products/StageIII.GIF.
I'm not trying to start a war with you or anything, but you really don't know what you are talking about if call the Intense Performance a POS. They do work and they look even better in person than they do in pictures. If you want a homebrew, that's fine, top of the line products aren't for everyone.

Message: The stage III z-tube is the best intake out there for the 4.7 IMO Intense Performance is the best intake company out there for our trucks. I would go with the stage III z-tube GTO.

Message: Well I was refering to the picture on the LINK that guy posted. On the site it said it was the intake for the 4.7.
That one you linked IS better I admit. But that photo I posted does look like the same CHEAP air filters I see at Checker. I doubted it to be up to par with the likes of K&N.
But it's not like a home brew couldn't be as good or better than spending a few hundred on someone elses. Theres sooooo many sites offering intakes, you can't keep track on who is legit (Dyno tests) etc. Not too mention REAL WORLD tests like out on the road vs a test in a garage.
I like a home made RAM AIR type of intake personally. i.e. SHORT tube (if any) with direct and plentiful scoop. But we all know there's not much room for that under our hoods.
btw, to insert a photo in the post, use the < , then use the tag img src= then in quotes put your url to the link such as a jpg and end it with the >

Message: Hey Horbedarn, why do you say NOT to buy the Paxton S/C?
While we're on the subject, I hear the Kenny Bell one talked about alot. SOmeone said it didn't void the waranty. Is that true?

Message: I don't know anything about voiding the warranty. Mine ran out a while ago so I don't care anymore. I have had so many problems with the Paxton supercharger. They don't send you all the parts in the box, the quality control is very bad, the instructions don't tell you the correct wires to tap into and when you call they don't know for sure either, I have already had one of the computers go bad, I have engine lights now becasue of the supercharger, and I am getting oil in the discharge tube of the supercharger. I might have forgot some things, but those are the major ones.
