8.9 to 1 compression , a weenie ass cam , and weighing 4000 lbs. really isnt helping us.

I heard Caroll Shelby had a little to do with the concept of the Dakota R/T. His plan was for a 340 HP motor , but nooooooooooo , Chrysler said thats a 100 HP too much.

Save your money , choose your mods wisely and you`ll be fast someday.

I have a 2001 and I don't think it is slow at all, its a truck anyway. Last night I ran my friends 1999 Cobra and from a stop, I walked away from him. From a roll it is dead even until about 70mph when he slowly starts walking away. Granted I do have alot of mods (all the bolt ons except roller rockers) it is still a truck that can run with alot of sports cars.

ok ill vent. i must have the slowest r/t in the world. i can barely beat stock silverado xtra cabs with the 4.8 liter motor. mustangs of any year blow my doors off. it doesnt even have enough power to spin the tires. air intake did nothing. superchip helped but not enough. flowmaster did nothing, i didnt expect it to i just wanted it a bit louder. 1/8 mile best is 10.37. i cant believe how slow this thing is . ive driven a 2003 4cyl stock neon 5 speed i would be scared to race , and it was a 4 door and is rated at 132 horses. dont get me wrong i think dodge made a hell of a truck. it is comfortable , it looks great inside and out, and it sounds good and ive heard good things about the reliability of the 360 but i expected more from 250 horses ,hell its only 10 horses shy of a stock mustang , and i definetly expected more from 345 ft lbs of torque. something must be wrong with my r/t .......

Slowest r/t, have you had your truck since new? It's possible that you have a restricted catalytic converter. The power loss from a cat being plugged up is a gradual thing, and you'll likely not notice it right away, but you will for sure when you can't get the thing to move out of it's own way. Next time you have the opertunity, have the backpressure checked.

Slowest R/T,

My R/T was slow too at first, 15.70@88.8MPH at 3000feet in 90+ degree weather.

Get yourself a F&B 50 or 52MM Throttle Body, If I could let you borrow mine I would, I have no doubt if would put a smile of your face. After that try opening up the intake, either K&N system, shaker or just and open round replacement might be still better than the stock setup.

10hp at the wheel dynoed with no filter with everything else stock.
Another 12hp 18tq for the Throttle body at the wheels
My R/T dynoed 260hp@4100 350tq@3400 Stock.

Now I'm around 350hp@5000 430tq@3600 with no NOS or Forced Induction at the crank. I could move back to an M1 to make around 375hp@5400

If you like the truck, don't give up just yet.

My 99 R/T seems slow, but it's really not. Hell, if i put my foot to the floor, i'm not gonna move! i only have 5000 miles on my tires too! I just have the "death flash" and i think a Mopar PCM would help me out. I'll let everyone know my 1/4 mile time once i get the PCM on.

no i havent had my truck since new i bought it with 31000 miles on it . it seemed strong when i bought it but i was used to driving a nissan xterra 4x4 and it was very slow. anthony you said yours was slow to at first but i think mine is slower lol. i used the formula to get my 1/4 mile out of my 1/8 mile. i think it is 1/8 mile time x 1.56 = 1/4 mile time, something like that. well, im getting about 16.2. i live at 800 feet and the track is not far from me and i didnt drive up any mountains on the way there so id think it would be under 1000 feet. it was maybe 70 degrees and it was humid but not really bad.
my mods so far are k&n fipk , flowmaster 40 series, autolite 3923 ,and superchip programmer. im not gonna give up on it . i dont wanna spend anymore money on it though. 250 horses and 345 ft lbs of torque should be faster than this and its not.. so i guess ill just save my money and get a motorcycle if i want something fast and this thing will just be my work truck

this isn't confirmed but supposedly the 00 and up R/Ts have small crank pulleys and a slightly more aggressive cam. This applies to all the 360's (minus the pulley). Like I said this was something I read off moparchat.com from some reliable sources.

It would be hard to belive anything is better on the 2001+ VS the >2000. Except for the front spolier with the open notches. Easier access to the radiator and looks better to me.

We have Death Flash and Pre-cats with no MP PCM option starting out with.

Only thing I wish my 2001 came with was the new 2003 disk brakes now!

Slowest R/T

If nothing else, try getting some kind of modded TB, you'll be very surprised on how much improvement it would make.

Here is a comment from someone from Dodgetruck.org

Hey Wsup Dodge Forum!

well, what can i say? i own a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. i dunno if you guys mind or not, but i joined up to get some questions answered mainly bcuz the jeep forum is down and its tickin me off! lol

anyways,

i just insalled a 52mm tb on my 5.2 (you can see all the rest of my mods in my siggy), i dont know how things go here, but in the jeep forum i was advised to go with the 50. i have NO idea why people said that its not right for my engine, because ever since i put on - my jeep feels like its FLYING. and yes, i do plan on more mods including the m1 and cam.

besides, the new tb makes it feel like im driving a 2000lb car instead of a 4000lb truck! my take off has improved considerably and at higher rpm (3800+) it pulls much stronger than before. also when i floor it from take off it goes through the first 3000rpm's much quicker and gets me to my power curve almost instantly! now, im not saying its better than the 50mm on a 5.2 (because i havnt experienced it yet), but people have posted that they didnt feel any difference with a 52mm. i only have 20miles on it and am loving it! tell me what you guys think...

I don't know what the hell is going on. It still feels slow....

You're going to lose torque with the M1 2bbl, no matter what, due to the single plain design. And running the M1 2bbl without a performance cam. That's not selecting a good combo. Cam dies off way before peak RPM effency for the M1 2bbl.

The Gibson headers are about useless, no real performance gain Vs something like some PPH headers or some full lenght headers. The extra heat from the headers null out any gain. Also headers are not really needed unless you can suck in air at higher RPM anyways, which any stock cam can't really do well.

1.7RR would help, but a cam would make a huge gain in helping out power.

Give your head a shake no R/T motor will rear wheel dyno stock much above 205 hp. Yet you claim to dyno more than advertised at the flywheel!

the 52 mm tb...3" exhaust..m1..all those will move the torque peak to a higher rpm.

as for the m1 not being good without a cam that is erroneous info.

the m1/pcm and tb combo gave me a gain of about 50 hp and 45'tq over stock. my overall peaks were 250hp and 317 tq std....my curves on the dyno chart much flatter...as opposed to them dropping dismally at higer rpm when stock.

every other dyno i have seen with similar mods show same results.

also my low end loss is only slight...and i helped this by installing a turtle.

mopar pph headers/collector are much better than the gibsons.

Say what you will, but I've done it with the stock cam with the M1 2bbl+Turtle and with a performance cam. All I'm saying is that the stock cam is snappy from idle-4000 and starts to run out of breath at 4500rpms. The M1 2bbl comes on strong from 3000 and wants to keep going way past what the stock cam can do.

I've done it with both have you? http://members.cox.net/fastdodge/
Shows that I've done it, I spend lots of time trying out deferent combo's. I'm heading to the track this weekend to try out my new PCM upgrade.

nobody cares about crank hp except when you buy the truck. You cannot estimate crank hp because the only way to test it is to pull the motor. So you pulled the motor and dyno'd it to check your 10hp gain? I call BS, you have never dyno'd that truck and your figures are made up.

"10hp at the wheel dynoed with no filter with everything else stock.
Another 12hp 18tq for the Throttle body at the wheels
My R/T dynoed 260hp@4100 350tq@3400 Stock."

at the wheel dyno'd? really so tell us about this "crank" dyno you used. You didn't say probably would make 260, you said it dynoed 260. BS!!!!!

00287RC you are bang on my friend.

Our Anthony G. obviously doesn't know what a dyno measures or how it measures it. Bulls$$t just about sums up his post on the dyno.

Just tell the truth it can't be all that bad!

No point of stretching things cause sooner or later someone will run you at the track!

I make no claims on here of being fast, someday I will be lowering those 1/4 mile times but this year will be staying mostly stock. Just going to redo the exhaust and thats it for the summer.

But next year.... well more to come.....
