Subject: Should I chip it? (Attn 3.9 guys!) IP: Logged
Message: OK, I have a Flowmaster and an Airaid in my 2000 3.9L V6. I'm getting ready to put the 3923's, the Borg Warner rotor and cap, a 180 thermostat and some taylor wires on it. Should I go for the Jet chip next. (If you have a V8 with the jet chip please don't respond because I realize they suck on your setup!) Gas over here in England costs me $1.80 a gallon and all they have is cheap 90 octane. (At least they call it 90 octane.) I can pay $2.05 a gallon and buy coupons that get me gas off base. (the British people pay close to $5.00 a gallon!) There gas is a minimum of 95 octane! Is it worth the extra .25 a gallon? Truck Performance has chips on sale for $190 but I'm waiting to here from Speedtweaks because I would rather buy from him. So, is it worth it or should I save for the Flometrics TB instead

Message:
Start with the Flometrics TB instead of the Jet. The Jet Stage-II chips do work well on the V6's but you'll see more of a gain fromt he modified throttle body.

Message: dude,
yeah bro go with the Jet Chip Stage 2. i got'em on my Vsixer and i swear you can tell the difference.
but do the throttle body first. got mines from Quick D when he was still selling them. Magnum Performance is cool but i've heard the customer service is bad. when i switched the throttle body...... boy i could tell the response from the gas peddle.
hope that helps.
mahalo,
Scotty

Message: I spoke to Tony @ Quick D's about a month ago, he said that he still did the TB's for about $250 Exchanged.

Message: The QuickD Throttle Bodies are actually built by a gentleman named Dan Arcand (Fastman). We carry them and are ready to ship the day they're ordered.

Message: Hey, cbsdakota be very careful ordering a jet chip I ordered one when I had my 2001 v-6 and the friggin thing didn't even work. I was sincerely pissed off and still am.Then to top it all off when I sent it back they charged me 50 stinken bucks to restock, jet sucks. Go with the throttle body. Ohh and I didn't me to offend anybody with their jet, because I'm sure some do work, very few.

Message: A throttle body is a better idea however, I would recommend buying a used V8 throttle body from a junk yard. I had a 97 V6 Dakota and it worked great. You should be able to find one for around $100.00 ($150 less than a fastman and $300 less than a flowmetrics). Speedtweaks has conversion notes on their web site.

Message: Hey guys what do you think about the Superchips Icon Controller that you can plug your laptop into your computer for our trucks? Bernd your thoughts also? If I did this then would I need the IAT Adjuster?

Message: The Jet Chips when intsalled on the 3.9L V6 do not work properly. They are designed to work with "All chrystler, jeep, or dogde V6 or V8" and thus do not work for many included in that list. I tried one for my '95 Dakota and it wouldn't even idle correctly after installed. One would think it was merely a defective chip, but after trying replacements, yes that is plural, it is obviously a compatablity issue.
Also, I would advise anyone who reads this column to not do business with a company called Truck Performance. This is not only the company who sold me the uncompatable chip, they are the company who would not refund the $300 for it, even though they sold me an item which does not work! Their business practices were very unethical and they blatently lied to me on several instances regarding the refunding of the purchase. Not only did they tell me they WOULD refund the money, but once I sent the chip back, I was told it WAS received and the refund process was in progress. After weeks of no credit being placed on my card, I kept calling asking where the refund was and each time was assured it was in progress. Finally after almost two months and no credit, I called again. This time I was told the item was never received and so no credit could be placed on my account. Even after verifying with ups that the item was signed for by them, they would still deny it's arrival and not issue the refund. If that isn't a shady outfit, I don't know what is. Please do not fall for the same trap I did and avoid any and all purchases from Truck Performance.
