Subject: Turn off ABS? IP: Logged
Message: Is there any way other than pulling the fuse to turn the rear wheel ABS off?
I have been driving my truck around for a long time thinking my breaks were warped(this is even just after I replaced everything) well, for some reason it came to me that it might be ABS system. So I pulled the fuse to the ABS which also controls the speedo, and the problem completely went away. I know someone will say fix the problem, but I like how the breaks feel with no ABS. But, I am open to what sensor I guess is causing my problem.

Message: If I am not mistaken, the benefit of ABS is the pulsating that you are feeling. It feels like the rotors are warped but it keeps them from locking in most situations. No idea on your sensor fix. I would say if it's not pulsing severly then it's normal.

Message: Be very careful about wanting to turn off your rear ABS. Under hard braking, it is that system that keeps your truck from doing an instant 180 when you have no load in the bed. Back when I was in school, I was cut off by some !@#$ (while on the freeway doing 70+) and when I hit the brakes I was instantaneously facing backwards as the rear wheels locked up and the front didn’t. It was not a lot of fun learning to drive backwards while avoiding all of the other cars in the wreck. I spilled my Super Gulp all over my lap (try to explain THAT stain to the cop…). I’ve now had two trucks with rear ABS and in a panic stop it is great for keeping you facing the right direction. Next time I will insist on 4W ABS.
