Message: Unless you have experience in building rears , i dont feel you should do it. If you are not precise on all measurements the parts will fail prematurely and the rear will make noise. As far as tools are concerned, a pinion depth gauge ,dial indicator, and a torque wrench( capable of reading torque in both directions cause ring gear bolts are reverse threads)are some of the required special tools needed to do the job correctly. You would also need to have the bearings pressed onto the carrier housing. Good Luck if you try it yourself! I did mine ,but i have done about 40 rears now.

Message: Uhh, since he's keeping the factory gears, the pinion depth won't need altering, which leaves only the ring gear backlash and the bearing preload. You'll need to have some tools made for the preload setting. You'll need a pair of nuts that are 1 7/16" OD, and a set of 3" steel rods that you will have the nuts welded to the ends of. They'll need to be welded on straight. If you can't figure it out, go to the stealership and look at their tool they use. They'll show it to you for free. That's right , FREE. I had mine made for $8 at the local steel fabricator shop. They need to have 70 lbs of preload. If you still need help just do a google search for Chrysler 9.25" Rearend and I think Auburn Gear has a how-to. THere are a few how-to's out there that are very good. Keep in mind the hardest parts are left out when keeping the factory gears in place and only changing the differential.
I'm bout to install mine soon since I found a floor jack on the side of the interstate. Now all I need are jack-stands and a new tq. wrench. Maybe I'll find those too.
