Message: its not an aluminum block... just heads. I have heard that the wait savings is around 60 lbs. Not much if you are dealing with a 4000-4500 lb quad cab/club cab.

Message: but i dont think 60 lbs would make a difference if you priority is to use the vehicle to tow.

Message: I can argue for both since I currently own both a 2002RC4.7L auto and a 2000CC R/T.
You can't beat the R/T for overall peformance. It is good at everything except stopping. The 4.7L is as good in a straight line as an R/T but it won't out handle it. In my opinion, the R/T's ride is actually better than the SLT's. My SLT bounces, wiggles, and jiggles all over the road. It is very unstable at high speeds when you encounter bumps and ruts in the interstate or highway. My R/T is very stable at any speed and it out corners my SLT 2 to 1. My gas mileage for the CC R/T is 1mpg less on average than my SLT. It's turning more RPM's to go the same speed as my SLT.
I'm selling my SLT this week end. I have a buyer that says he has the check in his hand. If I thought the 4.7L SLT was better than the R/T I would sell the R/T. Don't be fooled by the so called technology gap between the 4.7L and the 5.9L. It is actually cheaper to build the 4.7L than the 5.9L.

Message: HUH?
I heard it was the other way around. That the 4.7 was about the MOST expensive to build (for the factory I mean, not aftermarket) and that the HEMI was more less expensive for the factory to build.
Who knows. You hear a diff story all the time but I think I read this on the allpar.com site which seems to be fairly accurate.

Message: I own a 2001 RC 4.7 5-spd LSD. After about 65K miles, I installed a factory R/T rear swaybar (no previous rear bar). That alone eliminated some 90% of the high speed curve "darting" over bumps. Handles "like an R/T" now. My truck has a 3-2 drop and R/T 17x9s w/Michelin 255/55/17. The rear bar on the Sport Plus option is a smaller diameter than the R/T unit.
