Subject: New PVC intake desing

Ive heard several people put down the idea of using 3 inch PVC pipe for material to make a homebrew intake.

Most of the concerns were cracking (and eventually sending debris into the engine) and/or melting (or at least deformaty).

Granted, PVC isnt rated for hot water use which is usually around 120 degrees. We can reach that under hood easily.

However, several posts by people happy with homebrew have not witnessed melting usually due to highheat paint or insulation of some sort.

My recent Home Depot find has helped to put these concerns to rest. Because I purchased a K&N from Autozone shelves (impatient to order) The one I ended up with wouldnt fit on 3" pipe. What it would fit on was ridged 3" metal ducting used for A/C duct, dryer vents, etc.

Because it would snuggly fit into 3" PVC, even if the plastic would soften in the high heat, the ridged pipe will prevent collapse. Mine has worked fine for three weeks.
