last night i was just cruzin through town when i some punk as kid"maybe 16-17",came up from behind me,he was all over ass,so i passed the car ahead of me and switched lanes,here comes this new ss silverado,the kid the kid looks at me and gives me a thumbs down and trys to take off,so i get from behind him,get to the side,and the mopar gods granted me a red light,he reves up his engine and trys to ack cool in front of his girl,light goes green,we take off,let me put it this way.i beat his ass bad,real bad.those damn trucks are slow.after i wooped his ass,he drove by and gave me a thumbs up...now what does that tell ya..oh and SSracer if your still out there this post is dedicated to you...haha

I dont think the kid was racing you or does not know how or you have $4000 worth of mods to beat a 345 HP truck. both trucks stock that chevy ownes a RT. I have a Dakota so I am not on chevys side.

Hate to be a bummer but they are 345HP,,,it's a tuned up 6.0L.
I'm curious what they run in the quarter... I raced a guy briefly the other day stop light to stop light and stuck him. (4.7L auto - cc)

With 5000lbs of curb weight, that 345HP turns into around 245hp or around the same power to weight ratio as the Dakota R/T but with the dakota having the torque advantage with only 35tq less but not having to push 1000lbs or wait until 4000rpm to reach peak tq. Not to mention the AWD power loss VS. a rear wheel drive setup. Only time the SS will be winning is with NOS or Supercharger or in the rain/snow.
Close stock race, who wants to pay $40k starting out?

I ran against one in the 1/8 last week - he was running 9.80's@69 - I'm pretty sure it was stock except for Flowmasters and big chrome tips.
I ran a 9.58@73 w/2.24 60' - don't know what his 60' was but he pulled me a little off the line - about 80-100' out I had caught him and started pulling away.
All I have is a '99 CC Sport with a 318/auto/3.55's and about $1,000 worth of parts(M1, PCM , Headers & exhaust)- weighs about 4300# too.

Far cry from $4000, and considering the Silverado SS costs almost $40K from the factory, it shoudl be a lot faster than low 15's stock. And yes, they only run low 15's stock, the same as most stock R/Ts. So, go back to the Chevy magazines and make sure you come prepared to back up your post next time. So it took $40K for some Chevy owner to keep up with a 250hp $20K truck.

not to be rude to anyone here but who really gives a damn about that chevy anyways. my "NEAR" stock dak will run side by side with them on street tires. out a the track on my 26-10.50-15 ET Streets im lookin at 9.60's in the 1/8th and 15.00 @ 90 in th 1/4 mile. have fun with tha CHEBBY CRETINS.

the main reason i posted that was because we had some jackass named SSracer come up in on our board,and talk smack.....and talk smack.dont get me wrong,the SSsilverados are nice trucks.but come on"AGAINST MOPAR"...HAHA.with the right setup,our daks,"5.9-5.2-4.7"can beat virtualy anything out there.i really hate when sombody comes on here to say there car or truck can whoop us.well,i think i silenced that ss guys,

Yeah, the new SilveradoSS is a far cry from the 454 version. Just like the new supercharged ImpalaSS is a far cry from the '94-'96 Impalas with the 350. The Monte CarloSS...well, you get the picture. Chevy really needs to step it up. Not to mention I think their cars and trucks are ugly. I really like the looks of the GMC Sierra a lot, but the Silverado counterpart is downright fugly.

I like the look of the Sierra and I think Chevy is headed in the right direction with their power train selection. Personally, being a former Jeeper, I love the Vortec 4200 (L6) and I think Dodge should drop their V6's in favour of a redesigned 4.0 maybe as a 4.2 or 4.8 stroker. The inline 6's have oodles and oodles of torque.

Hey budday!! The SS can probably beat some R/T's stock, but more times than not, it will be a flip of the coin as to who will win. Just cause the SS is putting out 345hp dosn't automatically guarantee a win. I mean, that extra 95HP has to push an extra 1000lbs of weight plus all the parasitic loss from the AWD drivetrain. Plus, the torque difference between the SS and the R/T is even less, so they don't have as much torque to wieght ratio as the R/T to get off the line.

Are you in Sac? I am low 13s now!! I just put my supercharger a week ago!! Bring it on!! Remember we SS buyers are not on a buget like you poor R/T boys, we got money to spend on real mods not bolt on bull sh*t, so don't even bring up the price of the SS. You get what you pay for, performance aside, you get so much more with the SS, the Dak is a buget, little rickity toy truck. Face it and get out of Dodge while the gettin is good. Run!! Trade that Dog on a real vehicle, who cares what brand as long as it's not a DC product because they suck!!!

Most of us in here do our own mods to our Trucks and that says alot more than going down to the speedshop and having MrsGoodwench install it for you. And just wait until the front halfshafts on your POS Chevy let loose and wipe out that delicate front suspension and where did the Torsion Bar front end design come from DODGE oops and who developed the heads on your POS Chevy HONDA it seems to me that CHEVORLET cant design a damn thing buy their self anymore. I will say some buy them because they are so cheap, but they would much rather have somthing better. You can't polish a turd! It's still a turd when you get done polishing!!
