Subject: Starting in 1st??? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 5 spd 5.2L, I've heard that you only need to start in 1st gear if you are towing, but I've also been told that you always start in 1st or you will fug things up. Is it ok to start in 2nd, because it is slow as hell when getting going in 1st.

Message: No, the gearing is probably high enough to where you wont be hurting anything. Now if you were lugging the engine trying to do it, then that's bad.

Message: i have the same truck. I always start in second. the
gearing is prolly the 3.98's so you're fine with the 2nd
gear start.
