Message: Why a 93, and why programming ? Carbed LA stroker would be my recomendation, around 400 h.p. maybe but with lots of torque to get that 3700 lbs moving. That's what I'd really like for my '69 'cuda actually, I need to sell my '72 big block Challenger for that to happen. Good luck. I think building small bloocks over 500 h.p. is asking for trouble and getting near that would take more cam than you probably want.

Message: (Because Challengers are getting thinned out as the years go by.) Looking back on that movie isn't it a shame your ride got shredded by those two 'dozers?

Message: Look again - in the original movie, they swapped in a white Camaro to hit the dozers. Look at the beltline, goes through the rear wheel well, not over it like a Challenger. ;) I just saw the remake, if you're refering to that I kind of thought the whole movie was a shame compared to the first one.

Message: It's true that that 1997 FOX made for TV movie didn't hold a candle to the 1971 movie. The musoc was well done on the orginal and the 1997 one was basically a carbon copy of the old one but it was better than having nothing at all, I still have kept my copy.
I was actually thinking of installing a Dodge MPI 93+ Magnum 360 (Dakota/Durango/RAM/GrCherokee) into an 75 Coronet police car. Essentially the same set up as a 70-74 Challenger. I wanted a nice smooth running FI small block that could be serviced at any Chrysler dealer with no headaches but I was told that the install would be a headache and that I was better off getting an aftermarket injections set up. I was told that there were to many sensors and computer modules that go evenunder the dash and that it would be an electrical nightmare. I have a article somewhere that has a Challener with the 360 Magnum but it doesn't talk about the difficulty of install. I know the R/T upgrade package from the catalog can give you close to 300hp as well. But now that Edelbrock has just released the first ever FI system specifically designed for LA series motors (small block) at least now I have a viable alternative.
How tough do you think it is to take all the working running gear into a classic mopar. Is it worth it. I just like a Mopar that starts instantly and none of this cranking and hoping for a start that plagues Mopars of that era. I was thinking of using such a car in LA and there is no way I'll drive a car there that takes 2-8 times to crank.
I don't know how complicated the new wiring could be as these MPI motors were offered in the old school RAM VAN and the old school RAM (92-95) and RAMCHARGER (92-93).
THoughts?

Message: I think that if you want it to be serviced by any chrysler dealer then it would be a very tough install for you to tackle

Message: As long as you stay with OBDI computer (1992-95), a Magnum installation in a classic Mopar is a breeze. Seriously, there are very few things to do. You'll need an electric fuel pump. Bolt the Magnum in, bolt the engine controller to the firewall, and the hard stuff is done. Get a matching engine harness, splice a couple wires for power, you can even run a modern air conditioner with some rerouted hard lines. The old gauges won't work with the new sensor stuff, but a rack of aftermarket jobs would get it done. Don't be put off. It really, really isn't a difficult deal. Oh, you may need to reroute your radiator hoses, depending on your need. Go for it!

Message: So I guess it was the OBDII trucks that had those extras that the dealer was talking about (mind you I know better that to have a final judgement based on what a dealer says but it was the service dept's booth that I was in) like gadgetry here there and all over the place.
Wiring from Painless or Howell Electronics should do. Trans? stock classic tranny should work with Hughes trans. assistance (these guys specialize in trans instal kits for all apps). I hear the 1993 A518 trans is the best otherwise for such an application.
How does fuel economy get affected with those MP R/T kits? Aside from the cam, I think those components would make it better if anything. I liked the TQ curve charts on the R/T kit in some mags (ads by MP) that I have.

Message: Yeah, the OBDII is a friggin' nightmare. PCMs that must be flashed to match the VIN. Dash/instruments that must also match. Speedometer that runs off the rear anti-lock sensor, more electronics in the trannies (and failure issues non-electronic units never had), battery temp sensor--the most rediculous thing I've seen in a long time, one O2 sensor that checks the operating efficiency of the other O2 sensor.....sheeeeesh! For a tranny, any pre-96 will work. Naturally, the 727, and the overdrive version 518 are the heftier units. In the past, Painless had nothing for me, just Chebbie stuff. Maybe they've expanded. Overall, the RT stuff should help, just keep yer foot out of it. ;-)
