Message:
Here I am minding my own business when these two "Rice Toys" pull up on each
side of me at the light. Since it just turned red, I'm just kickin' back
minding my own business, drinking my Grande Iced Mocha and listening to "Primal
Scream - Motley Crue" (rather loud) and those little buzz-bombs start revving
their engines. These are the ones with the plethora of stickers, big steel
wing on one and the other with some stupid looking McDonalds style wing, grills
where they shouldn't be on the hood, and 5000" exhaust tips.
One yells at me "ya think it's fast?"...I responded "compared to those pepsi-
can pistons ya got...yeah". (hehehehehe)
I hold her at 1200rpm with the clutch right before the grab point and
rock/lurch the truck a bit (back and forth). (Learned that one from the best -
Gene Rivers.) Those two morons decide to hold their engines at, what sounded
like, 3000-4000rpm and the light turns green.
OH YEAH BABY!! Dodge Rules again!! Hooked right up, no slippage, and easily
beat them across the intersection, kept going, and hit the brakes at 50 (matter
of seconds). We got up to the next light and I just looked at the guy who
yelled at me, smiled at him and asked him if he wanted to try that again...he
just held his head down and shook a "no" motion with it.
Heheheheh....guess that overgrown shopping cart handle (wing) on the rear of
the car didn't help him one bit...let alone the folgers can exhaust and vast
assortment of stickers. (His buddy must have let off after I cleaned his clock
across the intersection...he was spinning his tires too much..hehehehe.)
So...back to work with two kills in one under my belt. (God I love my Dodge!)

Message: Just got my 4.7 sport yesterday. Holy shi... does this truck haul. It's been pissing rain here the last couple days so haven't had much of a chance to try it on dry but the limited slip does work better than I expected. With the 3.92 gears I don't even use 1st gear. You can spin the wheels starting in second and run that gear right through 40mph before shiffting and spinning the tires (on dry) into 3rd and bolting forward yet again. I can't beleive the size of this radiator either. It's a lot bigger than what I had in my 5.2 and has an extra electric fan also. I took a couple buddys out and they were just stunned and said their friends 5.0 stang would be in deep against this OHC 4.7.
I hope to get some official numbers for the 1/4 in the next couple weeks. It would appear to me that with this configuration I will get my best times starting in second gear. This will cut down a little on wheel spin and save a little time in shiffting from 1st to 2nd. I found stomping on it in first only caused a lot of bouncing and 1st gear runs out at around 15mph. Starting in second gives a little bit of spin but bites quickly then excelrates up to around 40mph in a what feels like a couple seconds. I test drove an R/T and now that I have tried out this truck am convinced they will be no match.
Great piece of work Dodge.
BTW. Someone else offered to buy the truck off the dealership for more than what I paid for it!!

Message: Way to go Bernd. Jeffster, I love my 4.7 too. Since mine is a 4x4 I pick my battles a little bit more carefully cause of my extra weight (hehe), but I love taking out rice wagons. Especially the turbo charged ones. Wont mention any names. Bernd, I know just what kind of freeky lookin ones your talking about. Sound like a sick bumble bee. had an older (80's) 4x4 chevy with what sounded like a 350 in it want to ride my butt on the interstate on the way to work this morning. Was already doing 65 in a 55. He pulled out to go around me, pedal on the floor and engine screaming. I waited until he was right about next to me and dropped the hammer. You know it is an awesome feeling when that 4.7 auto downshifts out of 4th into 3rd, you sink back into the seat, and the flowmaster starts to yell! Lets just say the chevy gave it a spirited effort but........He got a very scenic view of my tailgate and I backed off the go pedal right after I started pulling away and still left him. Oh yeah, just happened to have some Motley Crue - Kickstart my heart playing when this took place. Glad to see you have good taste in music Bernd.

It had the shopping cart wing on the back and it even had a clear hood. His engine had all kinds of stuff bolted on. He looked at me at the light just smilin'. When the light turned green we both took off and before long he was about 4 lengths behind me. At the next light he just sat there shaking his head. I love my 4.7.

Ok, call me biased, thats ok. Granted I have a QC/auto w/ 3.55s, but I think there is no way in the world a stock 4.7 would run with a 5.0 mustang. I have both, my MILDLY mod'd (stock heads, cam, intake, rockers, etc) mustang runs 8.30s in the 1/8th. Not trying to start a flame war or anything. If your friend has a stock auto 5.0, then ok, he might have some probs against the 5spd RC 4.7, anybody that can drive a 5spd mustang should have no prob IMO.

The 5.0 liters were only 225hp stock if I am correct and my reg cab Dak is actually somwhere near the same weight. Untill you have actually driven a 5 speed with 3.92 gears you can't appreciate just what this truck can do. I test drove a CC 4.7 auto 3.55 because nothing like I ordered exsisted in Vancouver. It was fast but nothing compared to what this truck can do. Not even close.

Message: Ok, if you have 3.92 gears, and you are racing a stock mustang with 2.73 gears or if it has 3.08 gears, I would agree. But put it on a level playing field. I'd take that race anyday if I had a bone stock 5.0 with 4.10s (or even with 3.73s) But that's just my opinion. Perhaps you are correct if I just drove a 5spd 4.7 RC maybe I could agree. Even the extraordinary 14.2 that some guy said his ran would be tough to beat a mustang with, unless you are running a stock AOD car.

I have looked at your web page and your 5.0 is anything but show room floor stock. If it was I am quite confident it would easily fall prey to my sport. 235 hp with OHC and higher rpm's should be no match for a 225hp pushrod 5.0. STOCK. The weight is even close on a reg cab 2WD.

Message: Jeffster congrats on your truck I am so envious. I would love that combination but the wife put the foot down on the manual unless I want a CC. So now I've decided to just go with the R/T RC with the only option of A/C, rear slider, and heavy duty cooling. Hopefully it will do 15.0's at least.
On the mustang line, it takes quite a few mods to put the 5-speed in the 14.0 flat range. An automatic 5.0 pure stock I don't think would beat a 4.7 RC auto Dakota. Back when I had my 93 RC 5.2 Dakota w/auto and 3.55's It would run even with 90-93 5.0 automatics at Sears point. My friend had a 92 5.0 5-speed with quite a few mods and it took him a long time to finally break into the high 13's. If I'd had spent as much in mods as he did for his mustang I'm sure I'd have been right close to that 14.0 mark. As it stood my best time was 14.8 with about $350 in mods. With the new R/T I'd really like to start with a 14.8 but I guess that may be hard, we'll see.

Message: Got to keep the wife happy. That's priority #1. I hope she doen't mind the gas budget for the R/T. The Reg cab R/T's are nice but heavy on the wallet. Living up in Vancouver I got all the options but A/C. Didn't want to lose a few horses on another pulley!! This truck is great. I allready cleaned off all the emblems and put my Ram tail light covers on. Unfortunatley the budget isn't going to allow for much in the way of mod's for the next several months but that's OK for it goes beetr than I imagined it would right now. Get the security if you can. It's cheap and illuminates the interior as well as rear of the truck when you unlock/disarm the truck. Cost way less than doing it after market and is better than having someone screw around with your vehicle afterwards. Security also includes a key with a chip built into it so it can't be started without the right code.
Matt. I did a few more test runs on the dry today and your right aboust starting in 1st. It does pull off the line better if you hit your shift right.

Message: Whens the last time you saw a 100% factory showroom stock 87-93 mustang? My 90 when it was 100% stock ran 14.40s on factory tires. A few cheap bolt ons and I was running 13.8s. Also, take into consideration my best et of 8.3 in the 1/8th was acheived after the motor accumulated 115k miles, and the cylinder heads are from my old 89, which are 100% stock and have close to 175k on them now. The 89 I had previously went 14.52 100% stock. I guess it is not only a matter of the amount of mods, but you also have to be able to drive. Dont forget the weight factor when comparing your 235 OHC HP dak to 225 pushrod HP. Every 100#s is worth a .1 in the 1/4. Plus, I'll take the torque of a pushrod motor in a 1/4 race over the 'extra' hp a OHC motor makes in the top end.
Like previously said, you want a race, give me a stock 5.0 and put 3.73 or 4.10 gears in it to compare to your 3.92s and I'll take that bet any day.
Just brewing a friendly rivalry... :)

First lets get our facts straight. The LX coupe was the lightest and fastest Fox body mustang. Most came with 2.73 gears and some with 3.08. I had an '87 coupe with 2.73 gears and 3 chamber flowmaster mufflers. I was running 8.90's in the 1/8th. I also had 2 others that were slower but still fast enough to take even the fastest stock Dak. I love my Dak but its not my mustang. All you have to do to believe me is race one. They are all over the place and as long as the driver can really drive you dont stand a chance.

The spec sheet I was reading was for late Model Mustangs and other late model vehicles, it listed the 5.0 as running low 15's. The 4.7 5 speed R.C appears to run high 14's if driven right. The body style you are talking about is a very small car. I think the late model Mustangs are a lot heavier than those old dime a dozen Mustangs. They at least look a lot larger.

I was the first one in the line of cars and this cocky kid at my school has a newer style Camary (with a T(u)RD sticker in the back window) pulled along side of me in the lane for going straight. Light turns green with a green arrow so I start to go slowly. All of a sudden I hear tires squelling and see him next to me turning. WTF, he was in the straight lane? So he's gunning it thinking he's cool. He starts to take off and I felt a little insulted (especailly with almost every car behind were packed with my friends). So as he's going I give her the beans and catch up to him and fly right past him. As I flew past him a looked at him hitting his steering wheel in disbelief, yep, that felt great. Oh yeah, another cocky kid I know who doesn't like my "YOUR IMPORT SUCKS" T-shirt tried to show me that his civic could give me a run. I beat him by several car lengths twice, then I told him that his import sucks. The he said that Daddies Durango could beat me, I told him that thats no import retard, THATS A DODGE! What year is the SH and what does that have stock. The 2001 SE I was in had 200hp which is a lot for a small light car but with such little displacment (2.0) only yeilds a little better than half the torque (155lb) of the larger 4.7.

The nice thing about the lowered jap buzz bombs is they fit nicely under my Dak!!!!!
Hope to not stir much up but fast Daks are cool.....just as cool as fast stangs because fast American Iron is good......course the Cobra was an aluminum V8....
Later and good luck at the lights!

Message: Greg, do you have a mustang? Maybe everyone has one because it is a smart buy? I only paid $19000 for mine and it had 4 miles on it at the dealer. HMMMMM. 0-60 in 6.0, top speed 135-140, nice ride, sporty fun and an aftermarket dropping their pants and prices just to sell me something. Tell you what, go spend $50k on a Z06 Vette and I'll spend another $30k on my stang and we will have a comparo. I know who will win. Mustang, performance on a budget......a smart budget!!!

Message: I was driving yesterday in my new 5.9L GC and was stoped at a light with a new black Toyota Celica to my right. The road up a head merged into one lane. The light turned and I got on the gas a bit to kepp a head of the punk ass guy in the Celica. I heard him punch it to get a head of me so I hit the gas and and spank him. Beating a rice rocket made my day. Damn I love this jeep! I know I don't have a dakota but mopar spanking a ricer is still a good story.
