Message: my 4.7 5spd mannual did kind of the same thing,
then, I installed the HO cams,and,
As one of my previous posts will show and others also found that for some reason, probably has to do with vacuum pressure, it is gone!

Message: I recently purchased a 2003 Dakota Quad Cab, 3.9L engine and auto transmission. The engine and transmission work fine on manual throttle but with cruise control engaged the following happens intermittently;
When climbing a hill or even a slight grade, the engine will gear down sharply going from about 1500 rpm's to 4500 rpm's when it drops below the set speed or;
The engine will not gear down at all to compensate for the drop off in speed and I must manually give it throttle. At the top of the grade or hill the cruise control takes over as it should.
The cruise functions as it should in all other situations. The dealer could not get any error codes in the diagnostic checks, however, they did say they required another cable (?) for their machine and where in the process of obtaining one. Any suggestions ?

Message: I have the same problem. Last night I installed my intense performance Z tube and the cruise does not work now. When I was installing the bracket to relocate the cruise canister I took off a black line on the side and heard a hissing noise. Hope that I did not really screw it up too bad. I am going to check to make the the cotter pin is in correctly tonight. I do see the light come on when I push the button but will not engage. Anyone have any suggestions?

Message: I went looking in the achives and found that someother people were having problems with there cruise control also. It ended up being the TPS sensor. That would account for the racing of the engine with no increase in road speed/hunting by the transmission for a gear. The other thing was to check the vacuum lines to make sure that none of the lines are broken or disconnected. This is what I intend to do when I get home tonight. Hope that helps you guys out.

Message: I have a similar problem to Gary Mullin's, own a brand new 2004 Quad Cab 4x4, auto, 3.7 it will not hold cruise speed going up a moderate hill. Speed will drop off at least 5mph before the tranny downshifts by then it is too late. Manual control of the throttle (my foot) and the truck has no problem with any hill. So much for the improvment in engineering offered by Damiler and Shickergruber Inc.
