Subject: mopar headers?

Does anyone know if the mopar header for a 93 318, requires welding. The mopar bible says that some kits require welding is this one of them

I have the Mopar headers on my '95. The headers themselves DO NOT require welding. However there are the slip-pipes that join each other, because the headers go from 2 pipes into 1 pipe that goes into the cat and stock tailpipe. If you want to weld the 2 slip-pipes together, you could, BUT I wouldn't, because they go together so snug that there's not gonna be a leak anyway. Besides, you may need to take the pipes apart down the road, and it would VOID the lifetime warranty, because they come in chrome and it would affect the chrome plating. I hope this helps? Also, I've had my headers on my truck since '96(7 yrs) without any problems(blueing, yes, problems, no).

thanks for the reply, no leaks at the exhaust port seals?

Also what wires do you use, and did you melt any?

i have them on my 98, and i thought the slip joints were tight enough not to leak...NOPE! both joints leaked, so i took them apart, and put some copper RTV on the smaller end, and slid them back together. waited a day, and started the truck and it still leaked like a mofo.

i had a shop weld both joints, and all is better

i would not worry about voiding any warrenty...its a pice of pipe. its only job is to sit there and do nothing.

Thats cool, i'm more concerned about leaks than the warrenty. Performance parts really only carry a brake light warrenty anyway. They are covered until you hit the brakes leaving the parking lot, except the headers they seam to cover them.
