What track does he race at ? Is it that track that everybody gets great times at ? The one everybody says its 1000` and downhill ? Atco or Cecil ? I forget.
Hes gotta be putting 320 or more to the wheels or his truck weighs 3600#.
I just think its weird hes 1/2 sec faster than everybody else with the same mods.
I hope he does it !

Message: Well, it's funny that you should mention that Tony C's truck weighs 3600 lbs.... because that's pretty much what it weighs WITH HIM IN IT. That truck's a light-weight by Gen III Dakota standards. He's been shaving weight off it in little chunks for about a year now.... and currently, it's a skinny little truck.

Of course that's why your truck is so fast. It weighs nothing. I have a buddy with an 11-sec Ford Ranger that is basically all junkyard & e-bay parts. But it only weighs 2950lbs. It weighs 3150 with him in it. Not that much power to begin with, just nothing to carry with the power.

I cant imagine where the weight loss comes from unless he's stripped the interior or has a CF truck bed or spent mega $$$ on custom parts.
Any details? BTW, mine ran a 14.7 @96mph in that configuration. Stock heads and cam too.
That guy is close to 2secs faster!

Message: simply, the power your engine puts out has to move you and your truck. so every tiny thing counts. im talkin about carpet, passenger seat, AC, windshield washer bottle and sprayers, instead of having 2 long 3in dual exhaust pipes, get one side exhaust like spintech. in trucks, u want to take off wieght in the front b/c they are nose heavy of course. battery to bed, umm buy a 5.2L 5spd, first manual trannys are alot lighter then autos, second u can shift it yourself, and third the 5.2L is lighter then the 5.9L yet the hp/tq diff isnt that big. dont get power windows or locks, buy a turbo awd 95 talon that can run circles around us and then pass us. throw in a hand job and some luberiderm for the blow off valve going into the intake new shoes , thats what she said, along those lines vtec powered porsche in my suburan can beat your turbo typhoon. my 2 cents

Of course you've probably never owned anything nice, so you wouldnt have a clue as to what Im talking about.
If I really wanted to put someone in the weeds, Id borrow my friends 400hp streetbike thats 65" long. Runs 8s effortlessly.
My question was how did this guy lose 600lbs off the weight of the truck?
I dont want to spend $7500 for carbon fiber doors, fenders, hood, and bed.

Message: TurboGuy,
i dont know the real value of the weight i have taken off but here are some of the items:
rear bumper (75+lbs)
spare tire (50lbs)
spare tire assembly
gutted tailgate (25+lbs)
heat sheilds (10lbs)
a/c compressor (25lbs)
condensor (20lbs)
evaporator (5lbs)
hole in bed (40lbs)
i know there's more but i cant think of them right now.
now here's the items i replaced with lighter ones:
ladder bars (about 50lbs savings)
corbeau seats (about 20lbs savings)
electric fan (about 10-15lbs savings)
now thats close to 350lbs and i can do a lot more.
**not looking to get flamed about how my truck has no resale... i like it the way it is, but just to give you some ideas on how to loose weight.

I can understand the weight savings idea...just look at the Z06 Corvette.
Id like to get the truck around 3800lbs and still keep it "streetable" if you know what I mean.
I can appreciate weight savings and all, but I still take babes out on dates in the Dak occasionally.
The tail gate can be done by anyone. You can make your own cross braces with a few scrap peices of aluminum.
Glass can be removed as well. Only problem is that plexiglass will need to be polished to use it at night.
Anyone know how much those NASCAR trucks weigh?

Message: Well Crusty...where do you live??
I do travel with my street bike alot.
Whats so hard about going 9s? I had a 750 that could go 9s on back in 1991. My 02 1200 goes 9.90s right off the showroom floor. Add an exhaust and a few other mods and its in the 30s. Little dry shot with a 34 jet will get me close to 8s I hope. And my warranty is still intact!
Nowadays if you cant get a streetbike to go low, low 8s....you aint sheit. Most "streetbike" class drag races have at least 3 racers that dip into the 7s on a street bike, no wheelie bars, DOT tire and 68" of wheelbase
Unfortunately I dont have the motivation to build a car to go that fast. Its sooo much easier to go fast on a bike.

Message: Wow, looks like I missed a lot over the weekend.
Well, Tony C. and his R/T weigh 3600 lbs with him in it, due to weight savings. First off, it's a reg cab truck. Secondly, it's not a "street truck" or whatever you want to call it. He drives it to local events, but you wouldn't want to go on any 6 hour trips in it. It's not his daily driver. He has a 15-sec truck that he drives daily. Therefore he's not worried about A/C, stereo, carpet, etc etc etc... and he's DEFINITELY not worried about re-sale value. He bought this truck used, and that would make whoever buys it next the 3rd owner.
Not much value there, except that it's the quickest naturally aspirated R/T that still has the stock heads and stock bottom end. In the whole country.
That's about all the value you're gonna get.
A basic rule for all of you:
***Never Race Your Street Car. Never Street Your Race Car.***
Until you have a purpose-built racer, you will always be frustrated by how slow it is. Until you have a purpose-built street ride, you will always be disappointed in how noisy and harsh everything is....
It's that simple.

I personally prefer a "street truck", because it will get used on trips. I like to keep it reliable and use pump gas too.
