Subject: header instal IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, I have an 01 cc r/t and have the K&N FIPK, Magnaflow Muffler and custom exhaust. I bought a set of gibson headers a year ago and they are still sitting in my closet. I cant install them myself because my neighborhood in Philly is too damn bad and people will think I am doing stereo stuff. My problem is this- I have talked to at least 20 garages to install the headers for me and no place will do it. They say they signed some contract with the EPA stating they wont install aftermarket headers. Does any one in or around Philly know where I can go to get these things put on? and How much should it cost?

Message: Just put them on. If you are under the hood for 2 hours putting on headers how will anyone think that you are doing stereo upgrades.

Message: I have the same truck, and I had a set of gibson s.s. headers put on by a guy named andy at a&g or a&e automotive. He charged me 300.00. He is in the north hampton industrial park. You come off of 95 north to street rd. You go for about 12 miles or so till you get to the old willow grove naval air station and make a right. Then you go about another 5 miles to the north hampton industrial park make a left and go about a 1/4 mile he is on the right. Tell him John Sanchez sent you. His phone # is in the book.

Message: Try like 4 hr for a newbie, he would have to first remove the stock system. He will most likely run into the manifold bolts that attach to the Y-pipe problem. They where so tight on my MY01 R/T that it was bent some from factory, thus having to cut the nut off, not much room to remove either. Second there are two stud on each side in the heads that need to be removed as well.
Now to install them, you need an extra set of hands preferred to install the Y-pipe bolts. Still take a good amount of time to tighten up all the small header bolts. I'm not sure if the spark plug shields will interfere with the headers.
For me, the disadvantages out weigh the advantages for shortly headers. I've sold my Gibson headers, and I'm just using the stock manifolds now.
No real performance gain, extra under hood heat, spark plug wires sometime in the way of the tubes, header cost which was only $300, but for some they might need to have someone else install for more money.
If I do go back to a header system, I'm going with a long tube system, but haven't found anyone that supplies them, so a custom job might be needed.

Message: How about finding a buddy with a garage (in the suburb) and doing the install yourself thus saving $300? I took a day and a half but I took my time and had to get a new wrench, extensions and new mid sockets(not as deep as deep sockets). Oh boy! I think I spent my savings on new tools!! LOL
