Subject: Tranny-line pressure trick??? IP: Logged
Message: Hey yall,
I've heard of removing a tranny pressure line thing, or something like that, to firm up the shifts...I have a Club Cab 99 5.2 4x4 auto (and Texas Todd...I have grey cloth interior...I know that's important for figuring gas milage...j/k ;)
Anyway...a few simple questions.
a) can I do this?
b) If the answer to a is 'yes', how can I do this?
c) If I can do this, does it adversely affect my pickup? MIL light? Broken tranny? Faster wear?
I'm not on warrenty, so that doesn't matter to me (but it might for some)
d) What exactly is this doing to the transmission that causes firmer shifts?
Thank you very much for the info! You guys ROCK!

Message: DakotaDan,
Thanks! This is great info, but not quite what I was referring to...there are some out there who remove a wiring harness (on the tranny itself maybe??) that firms up shifts...that's what I'm looking for.
But this is great info too! Thanks! Great quote by the way...I know someone who did ;)

I've hung aroud here a good while but don't recall anything about any wiring removal on the tranny to change the shifting pressure. maybe a shift kit would but that goes on the inside. The PCM controls some of the tranny functions anything electrical would most likly set the MIL
The quote is the only sticker on my truck (back window that is) I get some smart remarks about it untill I remind them who Walked on water !!

Message: Dan,
I really find your links useful...I think you're the link-king! Every time you post, it's a link to some really cool info!
As you can tell by my screen name, I'm in North Dakota, and it's pretty cold here. Once it warms up I have a fish that's going to find a home somewhere on my truck. Way to be standing up for your faith man. That rocks! There are many who don't know what that expression refers to...man, I wonder what it was like for Peter...dang!
Anyway, thanks for the big help...you da man.

Message: the trick you are talking about NDakota is the one i was posting about in another thread. this is only for the 45 and 545RFE's. its the Line Pressure Sensor. what happens when you unplug it is the resistance in the sensor skyrockets and the voltages drops, causing the line pressure sensor to read 250psi. desired line pressure with the DRBIII is normally around 120-123 on the 45RFE. mine actually does shift harder with the sensor unplugged. your truck, if i remember correctly, has a 44re trans, but dont quote me on that. you cannot do it with your trans. the easy way is to buy a shift kit. works a whole lot better. sorry for the long post.

Message: Ok,
So I just adjusted my cable out about 1/4 inch, and WOW what a difference...feels like a brand new transmission. Might have to back it off just a bit, because even under very light acceleration it won't shift from first to second until about 2000 rpms, but it feels SO much better now...
Now the question is, how much is too much? Is this going to have any long term effects on my tranny?
Thanks for all the help!
Also, I have a buddy with the 4.7...does he have a TV cable that's adjustable too? His truck shifts way too loose...
Thanks again!

Message: George,
I'm in Fargo. Have you ever been to a place they call 'the desert' just outside of Bismarck? I went offroading there last weekend...man, what a trip...it was my first time offroading, so I had a blast. Completely airborne twice ;) (only once on purpose)
Anyway, is there a track somewhere in this state? Maybe we can meet up sometime this summer. I think we're having a summer this year...

Message: ok this is way off topic guys but I work with a Kara Carlson who is from Minot, ND. Her name was Kara Auch or something like that. Her parents are still there. She went to school in Fargo. Anyone know her? That would be total small world stuff. :)
by the way, can you tighten up the shifts on a 4.7l 45rfe?

Message: I have not been their since high school(the desert). I would take my banshee 4 wheeler and tear the place up.There is a 1/8 mile track here in minot and i think that you have a 1/4 in fargo.
I hope that spring starts soon, it is -16 on this fine saturday morning here in minot. If you ever make it to minot we could hit the track.
nabobz, i know a few carlsons but not that particular one. As far as firming up your shifts you could install a shift kit or a aftermarket valve body. I just received my stall convertor for my rt, it should help the tranny out alot. You can check with fastman.com for a valve body for your truck, they have a group buy going on right now.Ask for dan

Message: No he is thinking of increasing spring tension on the Pressure Valve inside the transmission... That will absolutely work to a point then without putting a resistor on the line to keep the Governor Pressure Transducer reporting Gov Pressure out of Limits code and going into Limp Home Mode...
Check with info@apsprecision.com for valve bodies, Shift Kits, and other transmission hop up related items...
