Message: Which are better: Mopar headers or Gibson headers and why? Also, I changed my oil at 3000 miles and have pretty much kept the truck stored for the winter. It has been 3 months and I probably put about 400 miles on the new oil. Should I change it?

Message: My rule of thumb is to change the oil at 3 months or 3000 miles, whichever comes first. Oil is cheap, my truck is not.
The Mopar headers include a new, mandrel bent y-pipe. The Gibson headers use the factory y-pipe, which is still pretty restrictive. The Mopar headers are also what's called a tri-y design which is supposed to be better for torque.

Message: Thats a good point about the oil. But I was just wondering if there were any dynos out there to show the difference of the two kinds of headers? Thanks a lot.

Message: I hope I didn't offend you, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. If I come across some dyno comparisons anywhere, I'll post them.

Message: I am running the Gibson Headers and my Buddy is running the Mopar Headers we both have R/T CC's. We both have noticed gains and neither one of us noticed more than the other. In my opinion there is no difference between the two. The only advantage I have in my opinion is I can now match the piping in my whole exhaust system to 3" I believe that the mopar Y-Pipe is 2 1/2".

Message: The Mopar kit y-pipe ends with a 3" opening. It includes a 3" to 2.5" reducer. All you have to is pick up a 3" to 3" reducer if you want to run 3" exhaust all the way back.

Message: Gibson available in Stainless Steel and have a very think flange, that made my choice. Although I store mine for the winter, those that don't may want the stainless, will look new for a loooooooong time

Message: I'm running the Moper/PPH/Mike Leach headers and they work fine. The butt dyno probably can't tell the difference the stock vs. Mopar Y-pipe makes, but I know the Mopar is definitely bigger than the stocker.
I picked up a Hooker Headers brand 3" collector to run 3" single on mine. Worked out fine.
John Mercedes at SouthEast R/T is working on a set of headers that are supposed to be awesome. More power than the Mopars, ceramic coating included, and cost less. I talked to him a week ago and he was still working ont he final verdict/install/dyno results, but they should be ready soon. E-mail him if you're interested - John@southeastrt.com

Message: BTW - I'm running a simm box and no cats into 3" single on my 2002 R/T.
Cats and the four o2 sensors are something to think about too.

Message: Thanks for all of the info guys. I purchased the gibson headers a while ago and I haven't put them on yet. I was just wondering if I should just sell them and get Mopar headers.

Message: On the oil thing, regular oil will degrade in time,as synthetic will not. If you leave regular oil in an engine and never run it the oil will still degrade (rot). The oil goes to h#ll even if you don't run the engine.Synthetic won't do that because there is no bio-degradable ingredients in it.
