Message: bought my 99 slt 4 weeks ago, I've had it for a week. the rest of the time the dealer has been trying to figure out why the oil pressure drops to 0 at idle. they checked the sending unit, the gauge, replaced the pump. then they took it to the Chrysler dealer who had it for over a week & their guess is it is a "walking" cam bearing and to put a new engine in it. the guys I bought it from don't believe the Chrysler guys because there is no metal in the pan or any problems with the sound of the engine. What do I do?

Message: I know this may sound a little whacko but go to NAPA Auto parts and buy a NAPA Gold oil filter and change only the filter. Make sure to top off the oil. We had a Dodge van in the lab not long ago and we found that there was a restriction in the filter. Can't say that this is your problem but its a cheap try.

Message: ok, i just had my 5.2 98 replaced with 85k miles on it. That same problem happend to me for like 30 miles then the berrings got shot. Needless to say 2 weeks and 3,900 dollars less... My new engine awaits me now. They still havent told me the exact problem just that it might be the pump, and to STOP USING FRAM OIL FILTERS!!!

Message: thanks Skyne,
sorry to hear @ your dak. The dealer tells me he'll buy back the truck, so that's what I'm going to do. It's a sad day for me though. I really wanted that truck. One theory is that my engine at some point was seriously overrevved(5-6000rpm) which did some damage to the bearings. I have one of the CDrom repair manuals and it says to look for worn cam bearings or "internal oil leaking" if it's not the sending unit, gauge or dirty screen, clogged pickup tube or pump. Your symptoms were exactly the same?

Message: larry, thanks for the tip, but I'm not going to have the truck to try that out on. Sounds like a good idea though. I seem to recall some older posts talking about the number and size of the holes in the oil filter having an effect on the oil pressure.
