Has anyone built a home made heat shield for their air intake similar to the K&N FIPK ?

Yup, just used sheet metal, cut a hole in it for the intake tube and wrapped the outer surface with thermal shield (the stuff that looks like tinfoil bubble wrap...) works really well, no pics yet though, I lost the link cable for my digital camera... If you build one be sure to paint it or clearcoat it because it will rust very fast...

I actually used the rubber flap that I removed from next to the radiator. I have the fipk genII with the not complete heat shield. I fitted the rubber to the bottom of the heat sheild and zip tied it. Now it blocks heat directly from the exauhst and helps funnel some of the air from the front gap.

And I used a laminated plastic sign, the kind you get at Home Depot, and it said 'Open House', or Gargae Sale.

It cuts easily with a razor knife. It's insulated as it is about 1/4" thick with a dead air space core. It's not melting either.

I made a floor from the front where the rubber flap was removed, and a side wall from the floor to the hood, to keep the hot exhaust air/etc. out. I also made a backwall going from the side wall, the floor, and the Pass. side fender to get air from the fender well hole as well.

Works great, cost about $5, and took about 10minutes to make! It won't rust either!

This all goes to my homebrew intake, and on the the fire breathing dragon 4.7/hocams!
