Subject: Checking tranny fluid level IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 5.2 auto 4x4 with the 45rfe transmission, what is the proper way to check the level of the transmission fluid, engine warm and tranny in park? or engine warm and tranny in neutral? (I checked the archives and couldn't find any reference to this)
Thanks in advance for your help.

Message: No, I bought the truck used and it didn't have a manual, but I found out it should be checked in neutral, It says on the stick it should be checked hot and in neutral but it was too dark to see last night.

Message: I think it actually has the instructions on the dipstick.
Check with engine and tranny hot (after driven)
Put it in neutral on level ground (engine running)
The fluid should be in the OK mark (or between high and low)
