Gear Lube. Amsoil has two viscosities, 75w-90 and 75w-140: As to whether you should use 75w-90 or 75w-140, personally I would use the synthetic 75w-90 since synthetic 75w-90 will perform above and beyond the recommended petroleum 75w-90. Amsoil Series 2000 75w-90 is excellent for use in passenger cars and trucks requiring a GL-5 gear lube, including those with limited slip differentials.
I have Freightliner customers driving Class 8 Tractor Trailor Trucks using 75w-90 synthetic gear lube in their difs. Tuff enough for them ... Tuff enough for me.

From 1997 to 2001 there were various transmissions offered, i.e. NV1500, NV3500, NV5600, etc. Please check what transmission that you have. The information might be in your glovebox.

All quantities should be listed in your owners manual.

Message: gs,
I did this fluid swap a few months months ago using Amsoil 2000 75W-90 and although some may scoff, I could feel the difference as soon as I pulled off of the lube rack. The reduced friction may not be as apparent in a 2X4 but with differentials and a tranfer case you'll notice the improvement in a 4X4.
Do the mod!!!! Sorry, forgot how many quarts I used.
Best,

Message: The Info was in the owners manual, however it only says 5/8 below the filler plug for axles....and where it should be on the dip stick for the tranny, not how many quarts so i know how much to buy.
Also when i drain the auto tranny, i just take off plug and let drain then refill thru dip stick? What about draining the converter and refilling?

Message: In response to your original question about quantities, my 2002 took the following:
auto trans: 14 quarts(that is a complete flush), 8 quarts for just dropping the pan and refilling.
axles: 5 quarts total for both
transfer case: 1-1/2 quarts
"Also when i drain the auto tranny, i just take off plug and let drain then refill thru dip stick? What about draining the converter and refilling?" Sorry to be picky and don't take this as a slam but if you think there is a plug on this trans maybe you should have someone do this work for you. The pan needs to be dropped to drain the fluid. The converter, I believe, can only be drained by performing a trans flush. Someone please correct me on that if I am wrong.
Good luck

Message: I have not even looked under my car yet...I always ask question before i get into something that way i always have quanities and tools and such.
I did my H.O. cam swap myself the first time i opened the hood, after asking questions. Took all of 3.5-4 hours.
My last few ford trucks had trans plugs so i assumed the dodge would be as inovative as well, sounds like thats a slam, but its snot.
