Message: so i went to pass someone today, so i shifted into third and as soon as i hit the gas the check engine light came on, i dont understand why, is there anyway to shut it off without going to the dealership, and is it recommended, cause i only have a 50 dollar deductable on my warrenty, but i really dont want to pay it to have them shut the light off, i dont know why it would throw a code anyways, well let me know if you have any ideas, thanx
btw - i have a 97 4x4 reg cab manual 5.2

Message: Take your truck to AutoZone they will pull the codes for free, then look them up at.

To reset your PCM disconect the neg. cable from the battery and turn the key to start and hole 20-30 sec. re-attach neg. cable.

good luck with your CEL code problem.
I'm not sure what I'm going to with my truck right now, with all the good deals going on right now I've thought about trading up to a 4.7 Quad cab ;\
You might try this site, you can search the salvage yards in your state.

Message: As far as clearing the check engine light(Autozone doesn't do this) you can either remove the rear(closest to firewall) connector on your PCM for 30 seconds, or disconect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds.

Message: Funny, Autozone cleared one for me. I guess it just depends on which one you go to.
