I just got a 2000 quad cab 5.9 with 87500 miles on it. It runs just fine right now and anything i do to upgrade it is purely just for fun and definatly not nessecary, however I am still looking for the best performance upgrades i can get without putting a huge dent in my wallet. I was thinking along the lines of header, air intake, throttle body spacer and some sort of dual exhaust, but im not exactly sure on what is the best way to go about it. Does anybody have any good suggestions?

the tb spacer is a wasted, it's been covered here a ton people have found NO benifits. I was in your shoes when I first got my R/T, I went with a fastman 52mm throttlebody, Mopar PCM, Gibson catback, JBA wires, brass cap and rotor and an airaid intake and I've been very happy with this chunk of mod's. I'm selling my intake though if your interested email me mike@figit.com. My powerdyne supercharger is on its way so I have no need for it.

Good news for you - You have the same basic drivetrain as an R/T, so mods will be plentiful. AND being a 2000 model, you can still get the Mopar PCM computer.

Dont waste money on a throttle body spacer = junk.

Here's what I'd recommend -

Cheap stuff:
Echlin brass cap and rotor from Napa Auto parts
Autolite 3923 spark plugs
180* thermostat

Stuff that costs money, but is worth it:
Mopar PCM
Mopar Headers into 3" exhuast
F&B Throttle Body
Mopar M1 aluminum intake
K&N FIPK

It'll feel like your driving a different truck altogether afterwards. :-)

Okay, I really dont understand. I have read countless threads where people have bought a TB spacer. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS? the 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9 are all Multi Port Injection. The gas is sprayed directly on the back of the valves. Therefore you are not getting better fuel atomization or leaning out your mixture. Your not doing anything besides taking ca$h out of your wallet spending and bending over for a big one up you know where. That is my 2 cents, if anyone has dyno results that proves otherwise I would love to see them, that is for sure.

As for some cheap mods, deffinately PCM, Autolite 3923's, Headers, some form of air intake, T-stat, Exhaust.

Aloha all! I've been hovering here awhile and found the discussion enlightening. I have an '02 R/T RC. What's the "L Killer" package? (Lightning)

Don't bother with the lightning killer package or a TB spacer. Id start off with the 180 T-Stat, Mopar PCM, K&N, and an exaust. Send John Mercedes an email @ jmmtsb@prodigy.net. He has all the answers, the BEST prices, and great customer service/support. I have herd nothing but good things about him and I have delt with him for a year now and hes great. He can get you a great deal on ANYTHING for your dakota.

Thanks! I'm on it. How about any ideas about a speaker system for an '02 R/C R/T?
