Subject: Ignition Boost.....is it really needed IP: Logged
Message: Im constantly looking for more mods for my 2002 R/T. Ive been considering a MSD or Mallory ignition system. I have no plans for a supercharger or NOS, do these systems provide any noticeable gains for a naturally aspirated engine ? In short, are they worth the money ?
2002 RC R/T: PaceSetter Air Induction, self-ported 50mm TB, Harland Sharp 1.7 RR's, Autolite 3923's, MOPAR Wires, Borg Warner Cap, Gibson exhaust, Yukon 4.56's, and the totally useless $550 B&G "Flash".

Message: Ive thought the same question as well, a mopar guy I know runs 7.90s with his Indy engine and he swears by factory ignition systems....he runs a stock distributor setup......works for him, I will save my money with my stock ignition

Message: Yeah, If you're not going to run a "power adder" then just get a good brass cap and rotor, good wires and good plugs, and you should be fine.
I'm considering nitrous, so an aftermarket ignition system will be a must. Mainly for the rev limiter.
The factory rev limiter cuts off the fuel to stop over-revs. This is MAJOR BAD NEWS if spraying nitrous. The lean condition will kill a motor instantly.
I'm going with the MSD Digital 6 Plus that has an adjustable rev limiter and timing retard. To limit the revs, the MSD cuts the spark instead of fuel.
No spark - No explosion!
