Message: Your factory box actually pulls air in from the fender... i paid a lot of money for an airraid cold air intake.... wouldn't waste my money again... just go with a drop in k&n... unless looks are really important.....

Message: I noticed that half of my intakesnout is blocked,it does't line up correctly with the cut out in the inner fender,if it lined up correctly,it would be great,it appears the cut out is made for the snout, when I took it off it fit in there perfect but when I put it in the airbox it is slightly twisted,I'm going to make an adapter to run 3" or 4" pipe from the box into the fenderto get positive air flow, thanks for the reply

Message: I took the intake snout off and removed the ruber thingy from beside the rad and my truck went 3 tenths quicker and 2 mph faster in the 1/4. The pulling air from the fender thing is more of a silencer to keep the 4 bbl moaning sound down.

Message: I still run the stock box, with a k&n drop in.
I've got an 01, 4.7.
But, I did take the air hat off, and run a 'fernco' 90degree fitting to a PVC (painted) which gets rid of the accordian tube, to the stock air box. Removed the elbow, and the flap, and once had a piece of gutter spout stuff going to the gap between the radiator and the air box.
Many have even posted pics of a similiar set-up.
Personally, It's hard for me to believe 3tenths with just the flap and elbow off. Did you remove it on the same night, other conditions equal? If so, then cool, glad I did it!

Message: I've also got an '01 4.7. I removed the snout from the air filter box, and trimmed the rubber flap 3" from the right side. Then took a "Mighty Flow" 96070 air intake (accordian) hose and fit one end into the airbox, and shaped the other end into the slot between the radiator and headlight. Took some black duct tape to make a smooth entry for the hose, using the remainder of the rubber flap as a base. FANTASTIC RESULTS! Throttle response took a major leap. Only other mods: K&N drop-in and Flowmaster 70 2.5" duals. "Poor Man's Ram-Air..."

Message: Texas Todd
The conditions were not as good the night I ran 3 tenths quicker. It was abou 97%humid and the track lost its bite. I was spinning the tires in second gear.
