Subject: True Dual exhaust, Good or Bad IP: Logged
Message: I have a 4.7 and I'm planning to put JBA Headers, and a custom full 2 1/2 inch exhaust, no cats, with catbox, and 2 spintech mufflers. Will I lose a lot of low end torque? Are the gains worth it?

Message: personally i think you can get more power out of a single 3 inch than dual 2 1/2 inch on a 4.7
I dotn feel its worth it to go true duals

Message: cuda,
Hugh gains? I read that the 4.7's manifolds were very descent stock, that's one reason why it has an awesome ci/hp ratio stock! Maybe with alot of other mods, like HC pistons, Radical cams, ported heads, etc.
Maybe the no cats thing.
Are you sure on a stock motor?

Message: I installed JBAs with TRUE 2 1/2" duals, Dr. Gas X -pipe, no cats, and 40 series Flowmasters. And I estimate 15 hp increase.
This is AFTER I already had Leach PCM flash, cold air, and MBRP cat-back, removed third cat, IAT switch, removed clutch fan.
Trust me when I tell you, thjis is a fantastick mod!

Message: So how much did you spend for that 15h.p.? Seems pretty expensive for 15hp. Not that i'm knocking ya. But theres gotta be a cheaper way to get that same horsepower out of you exhaust.

Message: Well considering the below 2hp you get from these $400 TBs,its a bargain. I have just under $1000 in my exhaust.
But what my exhaust mods have done is stretched the powerband. I am still pulling at 6000 RPMs. Plus I have that true powerfull muscle car sound now. I had MBRPs which if you ask anyone, are probally the best sounding cat-back out there. But with no cats and true duals, the sound is on another level.
I have a dyno scheduled next month. I would have had one sooner, but the closest is 120 miles away!

Message: I would go with 21/4 duals if your going to be keeping the engine pretty much stock. Even dual 21/4 will hurt low end some. Like cudashoe said, it will move power up in the power band. You'll get more hp and tq in the upper rpm's which will make you faster in the 1/4 mile. But in normal driving rpm's the truck will feel a little sluggish, but some don't notice it.

Message: cuda, no HO, the cams only cost me $122, incl. shipping, installed at home. I'd like to see how all you have works with the cams, intake too for that matter. You could be pushing >275 HP at the crank!

Message: I'd stick with the single 3" True duals with no cats would be to much flow. You want to keep a high velocity in the exhaust or you'll lose all your torque

Message: There is no such thing as single 3" true duals.
The HO cams are in my garage. I want a set of chrome valve covers. thats why I havent installed them yet.
Yes I would say that I lost some low end torque, but I dropped my G-tech times by 8 tenths on the average!!!

Message: cuda, about where in the powerband is it now that you really feel the power pick up, if you are at say....half throttle or so (kinda agressive daily driving)? I'm tryin to decide between true duels or single, but I do a lot of traffic driving, don't want to loose TOO much low end.

why change magnesium Valve covers for chrome ones? I heard that the bigger rockers need a bigger cover. That why?
