Subject: Wheels - Rotational Weight

Message:
Hey guys - I want to get a pair of slicks to throw on for weekend racing. Was wondering if anyone had any input on the wheels - what kind of difference is aluminum going to make over steel?

Any thoughts on slicks, etc appreciated as well...

Aluminum is lighter then steel so it takes less force to spin. Since your going straight line, get a set of 15" aluminum wheels, the lighter the better. But since it takes so much less force to spin these wheels, you will want to get good rubber so the truck grabs.

Hope this helps
Dan

you can find a set of 2 stock 15x8 wheels for around $100 or less, not a bad option

I think I read in a car craft/hot rod mag. that they picked up .15sec/1mph with a rim swap on a chevelle. If I find they issue I'll let you know.

Don't forget that reducing unsprung weight will also reduce wheel chatter when you're cornering.
