well,
i have been checking into methods of cooling the intake temp on mt inlet tube on my new intake.
i read that for every 10 degree decrease in intake air temp.,you gain 1 to 2 % in hp increase.i felt the inlet tube, after 5 hard runs the other day ,and it was not that bad,but if i added a heat wrap,it would cool it dramatically.
using a radiant heat barrier.this should inprove hp gains .i will keep up on it,and keep you posted.

steve,

The work you've I've seen pics of look good on your intakes. I like the way you newest version only has 1 90deg to get to the fender instead of 2. I looked at my 4.7, did you bend or move those A/c lines? I think I bent mine forward when installing my HO cams, maybe with a slight bend back, I'd regain the clearance for the tube to go by there. Since the air spends very little time in the intake with TV open, and the overall suface area is so little, (one big pipe instaed on lots of little ones, like a radiator), do you really think it makes that big of a difference.

Some recently posted actual intake temps, from the tube, at idle, and after engine was warmed up, and while driving. It was a good post, don't have the link, did you see that?

no i did not see that post.i removed the small ac line holders, and bent the little bracket back and down a little, and zip tied the lines to the bracket.i thought about one of the temp strips,to put on it and get some readings.i wanted to cover that aspect of it,because in previous posts dak owners stressed coldest air,so its in the fenderwell, and know want to cool the inlet tube as much as possible.

If your using nitrous that cools your air down anyways so you shouldn't have to worry about intake temp.

Now N/A trucks is a different story. What about wrapping the tube w/ cooling coils and try to fab up some way of running coolant through those tubes wrapped around the intake tube?

I don't remember the stock arrangement, but I do seem to remember a post by someone who said that they re-routed their heater hose away from the tb and it made a noticeable difference (on a 4.7).

yes , you are right about the nitrous i have cooling the air.if you cool the inlet air, plus the nitrous, wouldn't that be even cooler air?
i think so.i was looking more to header wrap, reflective heat wrap,it reflects up to 2000
degree radiant heat.it can be painted to to help the looks.

Think about what your saying your trying to get a colder air temp then 0 degrees. Is that really nesscasary. There is such thing as to cold a air temp. To cold of a temp can be bad for performance, think of it like its 32 below out side and you start your car and romp on the gas. Everything needs to have a set tempature for the fuel to burn properly. If your doing it for N/A performance, go for it but once you spray nitrous and it touchs that metal tubing it will cool it regardless and the air is going to be cold as hell. Remeber nitrous works when the combustion chamber temp is at 565° F or higher. That is why its good to get your truck at operating temp before you crank out the juice.

yes your are right.i do agree with that.i do not use it that much,(drive my truck in cold or bad weather)so i would benefit in the warm months.yes if the air is too cold, you will not make the power.same as going with too cold of a thermostat.good info, thanks.
