Subject: Radiator Cap IP: Logged
Message: Is it recommended to replace the Rad Cap when you switch out your thermostat? I put new antifreeze and deionized water in my truck last weekend and decided to switch to the 180 degree stat. I took it to the dealer to get the trans looked at and was talking with the tech about the truck. He told me that I should have replaced the Rad Cap. I thought he was nuts!

Message: I've had a 180 t-stat for 6 months now with the stock cap and no problems.

Message: same here...not an issue, unless, for some odd reason, you switch to a warmer t-stat...maybe that would affect the cap due to higher temp making more pressure?? maybe...maybe thats it.
but switching from a factory 195 to a 180, you wont have a problem...at least i didnt.

Message: Thanks for the info. That's what I figured. Makes ya kinda worry about the people who work on your truck at the dealer. Especially when they spit out a nugget of knowledge like that! Scary!
