Subject: T/A style exhaust IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if anyone has or perhaps heard of anyone putting a Challenger T/A style exhaust on a dak before, with the side exit megaphone tips in front of the rear tires? I really want to do this but when I do it I want to put an X-pipe with Flowmasters but if I do it the way I wish to the price is going to be outrageous. Any help or tips on how to make it cheaper? Suggestions? Thanks in advance

Message: you can do it. if your truck is lowered, you're
gonna have to account for the ground
clearance cause the tips will hang lower than
your frame. a custom bent dual exit exhaust
will run about $200 (not including the x-pipe
and flowmasters) for the price its not worth it
IMO. you should just run an x-pipe and dual
single chamber flows, and dump them before
the axle.
2001 4.7 CC shaved dropped slow...for now : )

Message: well I don't have to worry about ground clearance much, i drive a 4x4. And as for the x-pipe, my dad has 2 68 chargers , both with 383s in them. One has an x-pipe and the other has just a custom dual exhaust. The x-pipe sounds extrmely good. The regualr system sounds good but the x adds a little more muscular sound. It also creates a quieter rumble when at idle but at full throttle it sounds amazing. Now as for dumping the exhaust before the rear axle, I am going not only for the sound but also for the T/A style exhaust look, the tips add something IMO. ALthough this will take a huge chunk of change I think I would be happier going this route. Plus I an going to wait for a long time until I get the money saved up for it.

Message: Watch out when you do this! That was my plan until 2 separate exhaust shops recommended against it because of our plastic gas tanks.

Message: Brandon, what motor do you have? If you have a 318 or 360 then you can get the mopar performance headers for the 98 and 99 models. They don't join the two headers together as they are designed to go into a dual inlet cat. Then just put the x-pipe there where tha cat would go, and then have the pipe bent back from there. It is hard to get a muffler in the right place because of the gas tank. Have you ever looked at the mufflers on a T/A or AAR? They have the inlet on the same end as the outlet, I'm not sure how many mufflers out there have this type of setup, but I'm sure somebody reproduces the original AAR mufflers. The original megaphone tips are expensive too I bet, but an aftermarket tip (like megs) probably would look just as good if not better.

Message: Thanks a lot for the tips. Would 98 and 99 styleheaders fit my 97? I know the tips are expensive even if I buy aftermarket ones but I think it would look better. I have yet to see a dak with this style exhaust, just wana be different. But like I said, it will be quite some time before I get the money to actually do this. Just trying to get it planned out before I actually start buying ya know? Thanks a lot guys if you have any other suggestions fell free to post.

Message: Do you have a 318 then? If so I do beleive they will fit but I would check because there may be a difference with the 4x4. I'd talk to Marty ant www.krcperformance.com he does custom exhaust work on Dakota's and would also know about what headers will work. Does your current cat have the dual inlet design? If so you wouldn't even have to do headers just pull the cat and start there, that is if you don't need it for emissions testing.

Message: Yeah my truck is a 318, but I am not sure whether it has a dual inlet cat or not ( I'll have to look). I'll check on the tips at megs.com and see about them. Guys I appreciate all the help. I have never heard about the plastic gas tank problem. I'll have to figure something out about that. Thanks.
