If for nothing else, I would much rather see metal for an intake, over plastic drain pipe. Forget the heat co-efficient effect. If you want ABS, it's simply built, from hardware stores for about 20 bucks plus the filter. " NitousSteves" seems to be a much better set up, but havn't decided yet. I'm sure there are advantages to both ( ABS, built, about 1/3 the cost of metal tube), but the real test should be performance and mileage. Not to offend anyone, or make claims to knowing more than you do, but is this intake question really worth persueing with the new 4.7s?

yes it is.there would not be people designing
and selling them without a gain somewhere.
performance and looks are two of the most reasons
people modify there cars and trucks, anyway, that is what i do it for.(not just to be different).
i am going to post some #'s soon on mine,it just takes time.i know the gains are there, just got to get them down on paper.not to throw down on plastic custom set ups,(i value the guys who
try to be creative)but the metal designs in my eyes are better.i used to have mustangs(supercharged),and the racing crowd, especially the pro's were fabbing up aluminized intake tubing for there engines many years back.
racing is the proving grounds for alot of
street performance mods.

Ok, many people extoll the virtues of these intakes, but also state you have to add many other mods to get th full effect.
Well, with the repairs tot he truck and vet bills, I can't afford everything. But I'm looking to grab another 1.5 to 2 MPG if possible.
Will an intake switch give me that much alone, or do I have to add the dual exhaust and stuff before I see that kind of return?
I'm not worried about HP yet. This thing has WAY more than I've ever had before! But the 14.5 MPG is killing the daily commute.

Dyno tests have often times shown a DECREASE or NO change, when adding cat-backs systems, or dauls, etc. to the 4.7, usually and especially by itself.

K&N had a real hard time getting any product to show ANY dyno gain on their intake system, hence the delay in getting it to the market, and this is quoted from their R&D.

The stock stuff on the 4.7 is pretty good.

The auto on your 4.7 is easily eating up 1.5-2 mpg that would be seen with a manual. So is your viscous (belt driven) clutch and fan. Get rid of that sucker, FREE HP!

And remember,

If you have sewer pipe in your intake......................you might be a redneck!
(I have the fernco home brew on mine-sewer pipe)

HOw do people clamp those hard PVC's to the TB? The fernco stays softer and clamps easily, and has a larger less abrupt 90 degree bend.

I also have the home-brew intake with the fernco elbow connecting 3" ABS then going to a K&N cone filter. Just installed it and was wondering if I needed to un-hook the battery to reset the computer or not. I recently had the flash done for the rough idle and don't want to reset that (if it would?). Anyway, haven't done anything to the exhaust yet, but am after any gain in mileage I can get. Just not sure about what to do with the computer, if anything at all.

I have one of the new 3.5" tubes from www.360airintakez.com and like it a lot. It's made of aluminum tubing and then high-temp powdercoated to help reduce the heat that transfers through it, as well as an aluminum heat shield that goes around the 9" x 3.5" filter.

I've seen too many problems with the K&N's cracking (although they do replace them for free under warranty), regular ABS pipes distort or melt in the intense Las Vegas summer heat, and the chrome-coated tube looks so much better than black/white plastic.
