IP: Logged

Message:
I contacted the guy (John) at south east R/T and told him that I went to the Dodge dealership today and they said my pcm had been flashed to that latest pdates... well I Don't get if the mopar will still help and I tried to ask him and he wrote to me "if it was flashed, it was done because someone already installed a mopar pcm. the factory stock pcm would have already been flashed at the factory."
I was wanting to order the PCM but I really need to find out somehow if I have it before Iwaste my money!! I don't think my truck shift like that mopar PCM is suppose to but I do not really know?? Can someone please help me out with this? I wanted to order the PCM today but I guess that wont happen... if anyone can help educate me with this please do so!

To find out if you have a Mopar PCM, then take it out on an open road with no traffic and see what your top speed is. If you can go past 117mph, set the cruise above 85mph(try 90 and see if it holds) or rev the engine past 5500RPM, then you have a Mopar pcm. If you can't do one or more of the above listed things then you still have the stock computer and shoudl buy the Mopar.

Flashed with the most current updates means you have the "Death Flash" most likely which pulls out a few degrees of timing. It is still the stock computer just flashed by the service department. Now aftermarket companies can also do a performance flash on you stock computer as well, but seeing as how you have a stock or basic bolt on modified R/T where a Mopar Perfomance PCM is available you can't beat it. It doesn't flash the stock PCM just gives you a completely new, reprogrammed one. Then you can switch back to stock in all of 5 minutes if you want to run 87 octain, or need to tow.

Guys,

Do you know if the Mopar PCM can be flashed with the death program? Is it possible?

In talking with Josh in other posts, it sounds like he has a Mopar PCM, but his dealer has recently flashed it with the current flash available. This would really suck for Josh.

Eli

if your pcm was popped at the dealership, they may have retarded some timing to limit the pinging some complain of.

in this case it would lose some performance.

your only hope would be to get the mopar pcm to race and switch to your stock pcm when you go to the dealership for work. just in case they try it again.

you will need the new pcm flashed with the v.i.n. and mileage. i can get it done for you or you can hunt a dealership in your area which may cost more.

That was my lastest E-Mail from John... waht do you guys thank about this?? thanks again!

I don't think the dealer will or can flash a MP PCM but who knows. The MP PCM pretty much cures any death flash as it adds the maximum timing advance possible with the PCM. The crank pickup for the timing can me moved to add a few more degrees but I bet you would be happy with the MP PCM. I actually wish my R/T with the MP pcm and 89 octain gas would ping once and awhile, then I'd know I was at the limit of timing and then I'd go to 91 octain or even octain booster.

Just look at the label on the PCM. The part number for a 99 R/T is 5007107 for the federal emissions, and 5007108 for the california emissions. Either way all the MP pcms in 1999 start with 5007. The factory computer will have a completely different part number. My MP pcm is 5007205 and the factory is 56040405.
The MP PCM costs $290 from Mancini racing, and I bet John at southeast R/T would beat that price. Then you'll have to pay 1/2 hors labor or so, to have your VIN flashed at the local dealer or just run around with a few warning lights on.

Does it not shift at the correct RPM, or does it not shift hard enough? You can also try adjusting the TV Cable, but don't go nuts with it. It will rase and firm up the shifts some, and maybe your friends truck has had the TV cable pulled back some. I suppose it's possible the dealer did completely remove all the MP info off your PCM but if they did I'd take it back to them and raise some hell, make them buy you a new correct MP PCM.
