Message: Can anyone tell me the best ways to get more HP out if my truck with not too much money. I've been looking at this site and many others and they just don't make a whole bunch of after market engine mods.

Message: I have already made a cold air intake for my truck for some added performance and a great sound during acceleration but am curious about the 4.0TB. What do you think the HP gain would be with that? Is it an easy swap?

Message: Horpower gains would be around 5-8 HP. Its an easy swap and its cheap about $50 for the throttle body. The only problem I had was finding the throttle body and some special torx bits with a hole and a post in the middle. I had to buy a whole set cause they don't sell them individually which cost me another $20 for torx bit set. Heres a link that will tell you about the throttle body swap and other tweaks you can do on the 2.5L 4-banger.

Message: seriously though...with all due respect...asking for more performance out of a 2.5 liter in a truck is like asking Oprah to give up her bon bons, it just doesn't happen. For all the money you spend on mods you could simply trade in your truck for at least a V6 for a very minimal amount, or find a cheap used V8 engine and pay for the installation, you may end up spending a little more than just modding up your 2.5 but believe me you could spend way more modding that little thing up and never come close to a larger engine

Message: I could possibly do that my friend, but i would also shell out the bigger bucks for insurence. I am currently 17 years old and don't have a whole bunch of money to spend on stuff such as more gas consumption and insurence in wich I have to have full coverage because I bought the Dak through a car lone at a repo sale. My payment a reasonably small do to the fact that I went through my grandmothers credit. BUT I am making all of the payments through working at Arbys, wich if you know does not pay all that weel in this world we live in today. I don't know why but ther arent very many computer jobs in a small town of about 12k. That and they had a V6 but it was a automatic, and I just dont like autos very much. Given the chance and the money I would buy a V6 or V8.
I don't want to go all out and try to pull 12's in my "PUNY DAK". I just want to be able to have a little more fun and get up the mountains easier. Thanks for all you help, and if you have any more tips please post it.

Message: I don't know if any company makes a pully set for the 2.5 engine, but if they do go for it. The jeep engine was popular, so they probably do make a pulley set. Also, switch out the clutch fan with an electric setup (if it's not electric from factory?). I recommend the Black Magic fan from Flex-a-lite. There is also a cam available for the 2.5, which someone at Moparchat put in this truck. The guy claimed the cam make a world of difference. I don't know if he installed better roller rockers, rods, retainers, springs etc, but I'd recommend do so if you go with a higher revving cam. A cheaper mod is to switch the 195 thermo for a 180 thermo. About 10 dollars for a cooler running engine is always a bargain.
