Are you sure it was the head gasket and not the belly pan gasket under the intake ?

Message: Slvr,
Thats possible, the more forceful fuel/air explosion -could- cause that I suppose. It depends on what the final octane ended up being, if you were running premium and poured that in, and for some reason your truck was detonating (pinging), then yeah, I suppose it could.
Also possible is that you overrevved and the compression blew it out, or a combination of the two. Since your going to have the head off, have them check to see if it's got a clean mating surface with the block. It's possible that the surface wasn't perfect, and when you got on it, the gasket let loose at the weakest point.

Message: Octane will not blow head gaskets. I'm with Dan... If you have a blown head gasket then as your taking it apart get a close look at the intake belly pan gasket.
And the only thing that will happen if you over rev is stretch your rods, crack a piston skirt, or float the valves (My personal fav)
Good luck
