Subject: Ram Air or Cold Air? IP: Logged
Message: Over this thanksgiving break, I installed my M1 2bbl, X/L Turtle (thanks Jeff!), 180 Degree Thermostat, and Autolite 3923's. I didnt notice any loss at all off the line like some have, but on the high end, I didnt notice a "huge" difference like others have either. I did pick up 1 second from 0 to 60 and 1.5 mpg, so I'm definatly happy with it. I'm sure that once I get the B&G flash it's really going to open it up.
Anyways, here's my question... After seeing how the M1 basiclly shoots the air straight into the runners, it seems like my stock air intake is REALLY restricting the amount of air that is ABLE to enter the runners. So would a cold air intake that is "sucking" the air into the runners or a ram air hood forcing air into the runners prevail more HP for me? Or would neither make that big off a difference?
Thanks everyone!!!!!!
Robbie.

Message: I just did a dyno. that may be of interest to you on this.
I made a pull with my ram air box with dual 4" air ducts running up to the sides of the rad.
Peak RWHP: 243.1 Peak RWTorque: 259.5
I followed this pull with a 14" x 2.25" K&N open air cleaner (height of filter restricted by Gen III hood cleanance) in place of the ram air box.
Peak RWHP: 236.1 Peak RWtorque: 250.9
It does make a difference cold air in and the above is without the benefits of ram air except for the large dyno. fan that was blowing in front.
Just my experience. HTH.
