Subject: 1/4 Results from Carlsbad! IP: Logged
Message: The racing in Carlsbad had a good Dakota turnout! I ran my truck in full street trim (full tire pressure in tires also) and got a 15.1 @ 89.17 mph with a horrible 2.4 60'. I got a few passes in but I kept screwing things up after my second pass (one example: let off the gas before the 1/4 mark). With a little work on my 60' and no dump mistakes, the truck should dip into the high 14s. My mods include K&N, Flowmaster muffler and Black Magic electric fan. I'm happy with my close to stock runs!
It was also sweet watching a naturally aspirated R/T run a 13.6 @ ?(can't remember). The truck has stock heads and cam, but does have the usual bolt-ons. For those who doubt a naturally aspirated R/T can see 13s without serious mods, I saw it with my own two eyes! Surprised the heck out of a few Lightning owners!
Congrats to Ed and his 4.7 5,000lbs QuadCab 4x4 for running a 16.3 @ ?(can't remember)!
In closing, I felt rather slow compared to all the 12 and 13 second cars and trucks. The majority of the vehicles that were lined up in the pits with me were all 13s or faster. I guess this means I need to empty out my wallet a little more! ;)

Message: That was Kevin's ride... Runs real good with Gears, cut outs, non-AC truck-- and the general mods. I think he's in the 3700-3800# range with him in it too!
I ran a best of 12.56@108.87.. But, with the cool temps, and no bottle warmer-- I know there was more...
It was fun!

Message: Think it was a .520 light.. I was in the 500s all day (except a bad .650 light)...
Tripod on the passenger side seat, straped in with the seat belt and a autocross 'torso' strap.

Message: Well i also got a new best at carlsbad besides horrific 60fts. I ran a best of 14.26 at 101.5, with a 2.56 60ft :(
Mods are only a vortech, alky injection,M1 2bbl, and PCM. Had alot of fun even though I only got 2 runs in. Met alot of new people and it was a blast.

Message: Alky injection, or alcohol injection is just a pump that sprays a mixture of alcohol and water into the airhat to lower temperatures and act as an octane booster. For SC engines it works as well or better than an intercooler. With enough fuel and enough alky sprayed you can cut out all timing, and in some cases pull o degrees even with the advance of the mopar pcm. I run kennedys system, SMC makes a much cheaper system though.

Message: So the water/alcohol mixture isn't bad for the combustion cambers?

Message: Well, it can be good for them, and it can be kinda bad. Alcohol isnt bad for the combustion chambers, and neither is water as long as it is turned into gas. But it can cause more bore wear after long term use because oil is cleaned off the cylinder walls. GM used it in a production turbo buick i believe a while ago. But for the smaller amounts used in a street SC car it shouldnt be too bad. If it really bothers you just turn off the alky and retard the timing until you get to the track. It has not been proven to cause any extra wear though, just giving you the heads up. Adding extra fuel does basically the same thing as well. I know people trickle water into there TB while reving the engine to clean carbon deposits. It is old technology, i have had mine on for about a year and couldnt be happier with it.

Message: Brig, can you set a boost level that you want the pump to start pumping, or does it just start when the boost comes on (at 1psi)?
i am going to get the SMC kit, and it will allow you to start spraying anywhere from 4-16lbs of boost. if yours has this, what is it set at? i believe Rick starts his at 5 lbs of boost, but im just taking notes right now.
also, at the "bad", was it set on the supersoaker setting? (aka full blast)
-Eric Injection is nice, but i'd rather be blown. 5.2L, 5speed. Powerdyne SC, 50mm TB, 2bbl M-1, 1.7RR's, MSD 6BTM, ceramic JBA headers, 3

Message: Eric~
I can have mine set to any setting I want. I think it is at 3-4psi right now. Mine is set by kennedys when you order it. They said that is what the last r/t kit they did was set at. I could be wrong though, been on for a long time now.
---At carlsbad it was on about 50% i found out, and about 40/60 alky to water. I was just turning it up and advancing timing. Only got two runs so i was kinda pissed. The last run i was cooking until it started to lightly ping so i threw it to 4 more degrees retard and kept it floored. HEADERS, more alky, and bigger AUX injectors, and i think even with my super duper 60fts i could get deep into 13's.
I would go with SMC though, i have had lots of problems using the Windshield washer container. And the $550+ price for the kennedys is kinda high. Although they will custom make whatever type of kit you want, so if you find a bag of money take your pick.
