i was told that the 5.7 is going to replace every ride the has a 5.9 in it. ram, dakota, and durango. you can start ordering the 5.7 in the 1500 at the end of this year.

From what I hear its more around the 2004-2005 models of the dakotas and ram that are going to possess this sort of insanity. I'm not certain though. There was a particular thread somewhere around here that dealt with that issue though.

you can order the 1/2 ton ram with a hemi right now. i work at a dealership. we're waiting on them to come in. i've heard rumor that the hemi will be in the dakota in the 2004 year but no hard evidence.

Did you also kow that you can get the Hemi in a ram for as low as $16,500?!! That's just amazing to me, people thought the crate would be upwards of $10,000, but for $16,500 you can get the motor, a complete FI system, the automatic transmission, and all the computer controlls needed for a swap. Oh yeh, and then you have a complete brand new 2003 1500 series Ram left over to part out or drop your old 360 in and sell to a contractor. Makes me think... buy the new Ram for $16,500 and swap out the drivetrains, and then sell the Ram for $15,000. Ultimately I get a Hemi Dakota for $1,500!!!

I thought the Dak was being "down sized" to a mini truck next year and that the Durango would be re-platformed on the Ram chassis.
If the Dak goes mini, I doubt there will be a "hemi" Dak.
On the other hand, if the Dak stays the same size and offers the 5.7 in the quad, I'll be pissed! I bought a 2003 CC, 4x4, 5sp auto, 3.92 LSD to pull my boat... I did not get the quad due to the extra weight. The quad 5.7 hemi Dak would have been my ideal choice..

No the M-80 concept is a completely new "mini" truck from Dodge. It will come a little after the next Dakota, which will be on it's own platform (no longer sharing with the Durango.) So Durango maybe new as early as 2004 model year, Dakota new in 2005, and the M-80 (or whatever then end up[ calling it) as a late 2005 or 2006. Dodge will again have a compact, midsize, and full size pickup. The Durango will be almost fullsize as well, not Suburban or Excursion size but about like a Landcruiser. Hopefull the Dakota will be about the same as it is now, but there have been no leaks of any designs for the next Dakota yet.

#1. The 5.7 liter will only be offered when available for the dakota, it will not replace the 5.9, at least for a few more years.
#2. the dakota is not going to be down sized, the M-80 is going to be the small sized pickup
#3. look for the available 5.7 hemi in the 2004 model year dak
I know all of this because i personally know the president of dodge motorsports, who is also v.p. of advertising at the dodge headquarters.

Daniel D. Your dealership must be differnt than the ones around me. My buddy wants a Hemi Ram, but the dealers don't know anything about it coming in the ram yet. They say they don't even know when they will be produced. That was 2 weeks ago.

I had one for 4 days last week. It was a 1500 4x4 Quad Cab. Great truck. It sure as heck wasn't $16,000 though, more like $50,000. (Canadian)
97 3.9 CC Sport. JBA stainless headers, Borla Turbo XL stainless muffler & tip, 17 x10 Boyd Coddington Smoothies, FMS injectors, V8 TB, Quick D intake, Have but not Installed yet: 5.9 litre 360, posi, 3.92s, Coming: M1, 52mm billet TB, ceramic JBAs.
