Subject: Electric Fan Test IP: Logged
Message: After looking at all the different electric fans available to use, and with no one making a direct replacement for our Dakotas, also not wanting to attach it to the core of my brand $200.00 radiator, I am trying an experiment. After looking at and measuring the electric fan and shroud on the other half's Spirit with a V6 and then measuring the old radiator, I thought this could work. Went to the recycling yard, (they don't like to called bone yard's anymore), and bought for $45.00 the electric fan with shroud that would fit a 92 Spirit V6. Then made a mounting frame out of 1/2 angle to mount the fan to, from the neighbor's extra stock pile, and added brackets so I could attach it to where the factory shroud attaches to, so the core is not supporting the weight of the electric fan. Then after looking at all the different fan control units, I opted for the Imperial (Hayden), Electric Fan Control Unit, with a range of adjustment of 90 to 210 degrees and A/C support, part number 226204, $36.00 dollars at Checkers, it also comes wired to support 2 fans. Then I attached the over flow tank to the shroud with three long wire tires. Got it all assembled and installed last night, and is working great so far, need to wait for some of those 90 degree lazy summer days with the A/C on, in traffic, to see how will work in real hot weather.

Message: Haven't had a chance to really check out the power gains, but after getting that stock fan and clutch off the water pump, which btw I may give to my father inlaw for his boat to use as an anchor, the time and money spent should pay for itself by extending the life of the water pump, which is more costly and time consuming to replace, than converting over to an electric fan.

Message: Got up to 83 degrees here today outside Milwaukee, did some running around town and temp gauge didn't get any hotter than with the factory fan, the electric fan so far is working great. I think the $85.00 investment was a good choice, compared to the cost of the other aftermarket electric fans. Best part is if the fan motor goes, I just go to the auto parts store and get a replacement motor for a factory fan which will be faster than getting one for the aftermarket fans.

Message: Pulled a car trailer yesterday with the wife's friend dead cavalier (RIP) to the neighbor's shop to replace the engine in it. Trailer and car were about 5500lbs, and in stop and go traffic, outside temp over 80, it ran cooler with this fan, compared to the last time I pulled a trailer with the factory spinning boat anchor, didn't even get close to half way on the temp gauge. I think the $80 investment was well worth it.

Message: Throttle response has gotten better, and you don't get the loud wind roar from the factory spinning boat anchor any more, the fan is really quiet. When I can get ahold of my friends digital picture taker, I'll have picture's to show.
