I think they're washers. Did your old plugs have washers? If so, use them.

They are crush washers and MUST be used. The only time they are not used is when you have a tapered seat spark plug. They do not come with washers for the obvious reason.

hey guys I just realized, each one looks like 2 rings squashed together. One is smaller than the other, does the smaller of the two go towards the porcelin?

thanks!

Buy Bosch and you do not have that problem. They install them at the factor so you do not have to mess with it.With an Aluminum head the engine must be cool before removeing the plugs. If you try to remove plugs hot you increase the chance of stiping the threads in the head. You also should not use anti-sieze compound. It can cause detonation if the threads are exposed in the head with anti-sieze on them.

and askes sandman" why would you put in plugs that expose the treads into a combustion chamber? That means the plug length is too long and can give you all sorts of problems, including threads that are so carboned up that you cannot remove them without removing the heads?"

Funny you should ask! I asked the same same thing. It would apear that on some application the thread are open to flame in the combustion chamber even though they may or may not stick into the chamber. This is why they are some times carboned up I recieved this answere right from AC/DELCO product specialist. They claimed that anti-seize has been linked to detonations and not to use it. They claimed that if properly installed you should never need anti-sieze. It makes sense especialy with aluminum head. If you think about it you do not see it used on OEM or even recomended in service manuals. You would also think that if it was required it would be applied by the supplier on all plugs sold to them for production and service. You would even expect to see it in a little tube in the spark plug box like dilectric grease and plug wires. I recommend you contact AC/Delco, Denso, NGK, Bosch, Autolite etc....... My feeling would not be hurt one bit if you went right to the horse's mouth.....

Use the anti-seize. Just a little bit, use a conservative amount. If you do not use it, use a little oil on the threads, becuase if you strip it, YOU ARE FU$$ED! You want to prevent galling and or a stripped thread. This is a common occurance with aluminum heads. The dealer loves when you strip the head, they will bill you 100$/hr to fix.

well, i will use this opportunity to say all r/t users (definitely) and most likely all dakota/ram owners should use autolite or champion plugs...i used the bosch plat +4 in my r/t, lost performance...not saying they arent good plugs...used them in my jeeps, in my grand prix, and still use them in my monte carlo...work wonders in those...but for some reason in the 5.9....they suck...just a warning...stick with the autolites :)
