Subject: $1000+/- for mods on my 2.5 IP: Logged
Message: ok, i have been saving a while for my truck, and i just got it, it is the 2.5L dakota. i have about $1000 or so to play with now that i have now for mods. mostly what i need is performance mods because it is very slow, but that might just be because i am new to the stick. anyways what should i do to it in any category, performance, style, i was going to say offroad, but that would be a waste of money considering the size of my engine. anyways, all input is appreciated.

Message: Turbocity has a kit for the 2.5L that has an intake, exhaust, TB, and map adjuster for $670. You'll probably have to get your own exhaust of course but they say 40 hp gain.

Message: Yea good idea...how handy are you...cuz I'm sure you could find an engine for a decent price. Is the 2.5 worth that much to you that you're willing to spend the 1000 or so to make it a little faster? These trucks are too fat for an engine that small.

Message: Turbo the sucker and see what it can take. Then you could always do a crate motor later.
$1,000 would do it if you look in the right places and make the piping yourself.
And that's buying NEW turbo stuff.

Message: Nothin wrong if that's all they're gonna shoot for. Faster than a V6. Yea a turbo would do it but from my stand point it's gonna be barely faster. Right now I'm rather amused with how my truck handles. Not near v8 power but in my 4x4 CC I can smoke a 2wd reg cab v6. I'm just saying why shoot to be a little faster than a v6 when you're just gonna end up wanting to do more to out do the v8. But if it's just a project you want to play with than by all means have fun. Just depends how much you're willing to spend I guess.

Message: Myself I think it's neat the guy dares to be differant. I had a 79 toyota 4x4 that I Did some serious reserch on. I picked up a 22R engine to rep;ace my 20R and used the 20R head. I put a cam in it that had the ability to give it a real bad lope, and a 2 barral progresive carb that flowed twice what the stock one did. The head got bigger valves and intake with open duel exaust. Not the fastest car/truck I ever built but by far it was the most fun and I kid you not, that little shortbed fooled a lot of ricers and gave chev 350's a real run for there money. I had planed to install a turbo but I got offered a really big bunch of bucks for it and just that fast it was gone.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: Adam, here's a turbo four banger mini-van that will take on most Dakota R/T's.

A stripped down RC Dakota should do just as well.

Message: Yea yea I've seen that a million times. Mini van also weighs a lot less being stripped and all. Im not trying to bash on the guy if it's a project they really want to do go for it. It really comes down to what it is exactly you want. This is just an opinion, I'm not saying he's wrong for what he wants to do.

Message: Adam, I guess my point would be that a 13 sec. 2.5 is a whole lot more impressive than a 12 sec. 408. Anyone can drop in a bigger engine.
Besides, this thread is like five years old and I don't think he did anything with it. I'm fascinated enough with such a project that I would be interested if I could find an RC Dakota with a 2.5 really cheap.
