Subject: 5.9 Performance IP: Logged
Message: Well I just baught a 2002 Durango SLT w/ the 5.9 and I was wondering what would be the best way to beef it up. I had a MagnaFlow Muffler put on there today and I really like the sound of it. Next I was considering some sort of chip... what brand would you guys suggest? Basiclly I want more horsepower without making any huge changes.
Thanks everyone!
Robbie.

Message: Would you turn your back for a minute so I can steal your 5.9? I have a Magnaflow on my V6, and it sounds like poopy-caca...I am in need of a V8.

Message: Some bolt on mods include:
-Headers
-Exhaust
-PCM
-Cold air intake
-Bigger Thottle body
-Under drive pulleys
-M1 Intake
-Supercharger
After that, youre going to have to go into the motor. Heads are expensive because you have to buy them from a dealer and we dont quite have the "volume" discounts you see with comparable Chev and Ford parts.
You could realistically see ~400hp before doing any motor work. And the best part? All the bolt ons dont void your warranty courtesy of the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act! :D

Message: You may want to try the Hypertech Power Programmer III. I just bought/ installed it on my 2000 Dakota 5.9L 4x4, and love it.

Message: Hey guys, I just found out about a place... http://www.bgchrysler.com and they said i would have to mail them my controller and they would "flash" it and that way i wouldnt have to worry about it "seeing around" an installed chip. What do you think?

Message: Ok, I checked out some earlier posts and found a bunch of information on the B&G Flash. That's rad that he does a group rate... Would anyone on here be willing to go in on it with me so we can save some major bucks? This is definatly something I want to do.
Later,
Robbie

Message: Robbie, I too own a 2002 and there are no
HyperTechs or Mopar computers for it and
won't be any time soon. I keep hearing the
flash is the only way and it works.
What is the group rate they offer cause I am
interested. I too did the Dual out Magna
muffer with dual pipes and it really turns
heads, sounds great. I got alot of response
from a cold air homebrew kit I made and the
TPS adjust. Look on the Dakota-Durango site
by SinCity R/T. Lots of great info.

Message: There is Hypertech, Kenne Bell Optimizer, ASE Chip, Jet Chip (I know a joke), and the B&G flash.
But your right the flash is hands down the winner, just cost a little more.

Message: I do have a few questions about that flash...
1) Can 87 Octane fuel still be used?
2) Has this flash shown any negative effects such as decreased engine life, poor fuel milage, or causes of any problems?
3) What is the typical horsepower after the flash for the 5.9?
4) Can a trailer still be pulled with it since it knocks all of the torque out? (I pull about 2 tons to california and back twice a year, on tour)
5) Has anyone Dyno Tested their 5.9 w/ the new flash?
I want this thing bad but I also drive about 30,000 a year and plan to put atleast 200,000 on my durango... gotta be cautious ya know?
Thanks again.

Message: 1. You have to use premium fuel with the B&G flash
2. No negative effects, it just perks up the stock computer. You will notice a loss in tire life.
3. I think one guy did a dyno and it was around 22 hp
4. You don't lose torque, your truck will be stronger.
