this guy barely has any mods but check it out at www.slammed98gmc.com and look for the track videos. I think you guys better think twice about a v-6 chevy before you talk and also look at his v-8 swap with the six speed tranny and this is also for the guys who say they never see a small block chevy in a newer model.

Who ever would say they can beat any specific manuf. is a moron. No one says that here. Now, they might say a stock or lightly modified such and such doesn't stand a chance and stuff like that. What you're saying is blasphemy!

Better check the title of the post out Xplicit. It says "fast sonoma" not fullsize. That means v-6. I have read this forum for several months now. I own a 2000 s10 zr2 4x4. This means that I know what maintenance and troubles and extended warranties are all about. My truck is not fast by all means but it has a nice crawl, when I'm going through things that your truck wished it could go through. I'm not trying to fight here, I'm just trying to show an open mind what the s10 or sonoma can be capable of. I've read too many times on this forum about people saying s-10s or sonomas that can't race at the track and still be daily drivers. Just copy and paste the website and look it over. It just might open up some of your minds of the potential of the s10/sonomas. Sorry if I pi$$ed you guys off.

hey guys you know we all love our dakotas,i mean i love my 01 dakota cc,mine is a 4.7 and its pretty fast for what it is.i can stay right beside the lightings and really close to the trans-ams closer than i thought, and i can take the STOCK r/t's,but thats nothing big cause there only 25 more hp.You guys wanna know what little trucks like ours gave me the best run?not the rangers or anything like that,it was the CHEVY S-10's with the 4.3's,i know chevys cause i have 2 i have a 67 chevelle ss and a 67 chevy p/k,but the 4.3 s-10 has the same bore and same pistons as a 350sbc motor,so when you see a s-10 watchout cause you guys dont wanna give us dakotas a bad name.We cant get beat by these s-10's cause if they put some mods(and not alot of them either)they can give us dakota v-8's a d%#n good run.

oh ya almost forgot if you see a s-10 with a 350 v-8 in it THINK TWICE,cause the motors bigger they have 300 hp bone stock, our 360 is 250 i think and the trucks are smaller,D#%N i hate those sbc s-10's.

You don't have to do many mods if you stick a 200 HP nox system on a small truck. I had a 1962 Dodge that I drove every day to work. Drove to the track on saturday, put on the slicks and busted low 12's. Then I drove it back home. Without nitrous . Without a blower. No mater what you got, someone will kick your @ss sooner or later. Just don't brag about rides with cheat parts on them and compare it to really stock rides. My Dak runs 14.07 and I don't have to fill no bottle. And it's a 4300lb 4X4. So there....

The guy who owns the sonoma is Troy and a real motor head (does all his own work). I've seen his progress through the years and it is one fast truck. The truck only spayed a 100 shot with the v6 to achieve the mid 12s timeslips. The motor was not heavily modified, just the usual bolt-ons. I do know he sprayed NX off the line at about 3000 rpms(not sure on rpms). He was on his second motor and transmission(replaced by a six speed) when he upgraded to the v8.

Though he is fast, his buddy's Blazer is running low 11s(maybe 10s by now). Click on the blazer link on the links page. There are some sweet videos of the blazer and one is with his wife smoking some poor sap!

Anything can be built up to be fast! I've seen video of a mid 12s second Turbo 1980s something Dodge Caravan. Funny!

yikes, so many opinions...yes, that 12.59 is very impressive. doubt its stock, though. 3.08 open diff?? yea right. nothing rwd with 300 horses gets off the line that fast on an open 3.08. dont get me wrong, anything that breaks a 13 is cool, but spending more than the car is worth is stupid. i never said my r/t is god, but yea, its pretty cool. and no one likes getting spanked by a truck. im having second thoughts about heavily modding the r/t...maybe just mod some old f-body or something.

well gee lets see here 5 pound truck + a corvette motor= 12's OBVIOSLY!!! wtf the guy has a $hitload of money to spend. put a worked 408 in a dakota (about the equivelant of a ls1 swap in a s-10) and then see what happens.

hey shane your a fukkin jacka$$ i thought that was a v-6, (which i would have found very impressive) untill i saw the motor pics, woop dee fukkin doo! that is very expected for a rc ls1 sonoma. like it has been said before you got money you got speed, this guy had alot of money.

another fellow who i've seen on dodge truck boards has a 408 in his R/T, in a cc though, hes clickin off 13's and almost hitting 12's WOW-WEE now think if his truck was almost 1000 pounds lighter i bet he would spank that sonoma all over the road.

imo all the cheby guys who put sbc in s-10's are homos

Listen Mrdodge, This guy, troy ran that time with a v6 on nitrous not the corvette motor. Check it out before you get all smarty and start talking smack. Troy did not put the v8 in until later. The six speed came before the v8. You can see videos of his truck with the v8 running but no track times with it yet. As I said everything on the videos was with the six cylinder............

To be perfectly honest, if GM offered a V8 Sonoma, I'd have bought one. My thing is that I like torque, lots of it. 12 seconds in a Sonoma isn't light mods by any standard, but still pretty good. I think most people who are really enthusiests KNOW what they can and cannot beat.

What I can beat:
Most trucks
Most rice
Most cars

What I cannot beat:
Most muscle cars
Most sports sedans
Most sports cars

Notable exceptions:
WRX
Syclone/Typhoon
Lightning

My favorite makes have always been in this order:
GMC
Pontiac
Plymouth
Dodge
(hey, I like the out of the ordinary type of stuff)

The race I REALLY want to see is a 5.7 Hemi dakota vs. an 6.0 Vortec Sonoma. I think it'd be an impressive display of torque in a smallish package.

Mr,Dodge,
That was not a LS1 it was a 350 that he built like a Lt1.Why are people with sbc in a s-10 homos. Is it because you can't beat them. And it's not are fault dodge can't build high horse power engine any more. And a 360 should be equivelant to a 350.

afi360,

The truck had 3.42 with a limited slip when it ran the mid 12s. The truck originally came equipped with the 3.08 open, so that might have been the point of confusion. Troy works at a Chevy dealership and does all his own work, so he spent very little compared to the average performance minded person.

Anyone read an article in HotRod magazine when they ran 12s(maybe faster can't remember) in some hoopty for $2000(price car plus all mods)? Funny!!!

oh yea, and that article you 'read' is put to shame by the mother of all stupid-fast cars.. the high 8 second chevette powered by 500 cubes of cadillac torque. correct me if im wrong i believe that was on factory wheels too.
ouch, dude....ouch. if you have to come and initiate a fight on a message board, you need to have your mommy un-block the porno sites you frequent. if you want to come pick a real fight, come on out to chicago and well let our trucks do the talking.

POS????? didn't think so, and it's a Sonoma(S-10)

1- I'll send you my Sawzall.
2- Carve 1250# or so off your truck.
3- Go race the Sonoma or stay on the porch.

Don't bash a guy cause his truck can cut a 12 sec. 1/4 mile. Just be happy racing what you have.
