Do you have a fallout shelter to hide in?
Each engine has their "supporters". Most everyone will say that whichever engine they presently have will be the best. There will be some mud-slinging and arguing and you still won't know which engine is best.
I'm going to put my best foot forward and say that the 4.7 engine is best. Why? Because that's what's in MY truck right now! hahaha

Message: Faster engine? That depends on what mods you have on what engine. Best all around? How do you even start to figure that out?

Message: Someone who's opinion I respect, once stated, that "An engine does not care who's name is on the valve cover, or whether or not it's the latest 'thing'".
To establish his point, he always made reference to Ford winning at Le Mans in 1966 and '67, with what was basically a 427 c.i. station-wagon engine, beating out hi-tech Ferraris and the like.
Tuning, preparation, maintenance, and driving ability win races, and I'm sure that we can all agree on that.
As for durability, one only has to look at the number of Dodge Diplomats in police service thru the 1980's. Police departments don't give repeat business to companies that build inferior products.
I would not hesitate to purchase a vehicle powered by any of the engines you're asking about. You will not go wrong by choosing any of them.
You should ask yourself what you're buying your truck for; i.e., what you intend to do with it, and whether or not the engine/tranny combo in question will suit your needs in the future.
