Got 12mpg overall with 15mpg on long trips in my 99 R/T. Get the same with the new QC 4x4 5.9L.
The 360 is a hog and I have a heavy foot. I have yet to see the little trip computer go over 15 while on the highway.
2000 QC 4x4 5.9 Black, no mods.....yet!!

I just did my first fill-up w/mileage check: 16.5
mpg - about a 50/50 city/highway.
Got a K&N element today at GI Joe's on sale;
when I pulled the old one, I discovered it was
the original - and FILTHY. Maybe my fuel
economy will improve.

With only three fill-ups so far, I'm getting 16-17 combined city/hwy, including quite a few serious accelerations.
Pluses: Advance folding bed cover is installed.
Minuses: Motor is still new and totally stock.
Hopefully, an intake and exhaust will
bump me up an MPG or two.

With 600 miles on the truck so far, I'm getting a whopping 9.5 mpg. It can only get better! hahaha
I don't mind. Didn't buy the truck for the gas mileage.

I am getting between 16-17 in the city on my 98 Dakota Sport V6 and that is with a 3.55 gear.
'98 Sport 3.9L 5-speed 3.55. Custom CAI, ASP Pullies, Traction Bars.

gets about 16mpg normal driving
(16 mile commute each way)
I have only had it on a highway trip twice,
but have seen 19.5 average highway mileage.
The truck currently only has 2500 miles on it

I have about 17000 on my '00 QC w/4.7L Auto. It's still creeping up, but around town 16-17 and open highway ~20-21@65 and 18-19@70. I did notice Dodge dropped the mileage estimates on the '01s from 15/20 to 15/19, for the same engine/tranny combo.

about 18-20 hiway and 14-16 in town. Used to get 20+ on the hiway, but I don't do as much Interstate driving anymore.. guess the computer "re-thunk" or something =]
My best was 24.5, that was on a 300 mile trip, all interstate,1 stop,driving behind a uhaul trailer doing 60mph. All this is from my overhead computer, which I have tested against actual figures. I have found it to be accurate with .25mpg or so
oh yeah, I have a 98 RC 5.2 3.55 auto with a flowmaster and K&N po boy intake and fiberglass bed cover (That helped alot on MPG)
I also think my R/T rims have slowed me down too

I own a 2000 - 4.7 - Auto Trans - 3.92 w/LS - 3" Suspension Lift - 31" tires.
With an additive I use I get around 18.5-19 MPG no matter how I drive the truck. I get around 325-350 miles to each tank, usually put 1oz of additive with 17-18 gallons o' 87-octane each time I fill up. If I'm on the highway / freeway I drop the tailgate. The only mod I've done under the hood performance-wise is my homemade K&N air system using a modified stock airhat. The truck was new in December of 2000 and has over 39,000 miles on it.

I get 11.8 consistently....no matter how I drive...Which really isn't that bad, when I used to drive my 4.0 Ranger really hard(which was most of the time, just to keep up with damn traffic)I was getting like 12.5.

What is the deal?
My R/T (Canadian) with a K&N intake as the only mod so far, with about 35000 miles, gets decent mileage. I average around 19 with occasionally burnouts and powerslides. Hard highway driving over mountain passes gives me about 15 mpg, with racing in town. Cruising at 55 though the mountains gave me 24! Boring as hell, but the 5.9 really isn't that bad considering it's so easy to whip middleaged losers in $80 000 beamers!

I have a 2001 Quad Cab, 5.9 Auto with about 10M miles. Mods include a stage 1 Jet Chip, Gibson 3" single side cat back, Bosch+4 plugs, and a K&N Filter (basic filter replacement). I get about 13 MPG and I keep my foot in it most of the time. I bet my wife could get 17 MPG without trying....

As a Canadian owner of TWO R/T CC's the post regarding mileage in the 19 mpg range for a R/T is someones idea of a joke, both trucks in our family have tonneau covers, cat back dual exhaust, mine has a K&N cone filter, a MSD 6a box, the BEST we get on the highway is 10/11, I know of R/T's that get 6 mpg on the highway forget the city.I have discussed the poor mileage with the Mopar perfomance people at the NHRA Springnationals with out any results, their answer is a new motor is on the way so no development is being done on the R/T unit.

I get 14.7-15 in town, 17-18 on the highway. I have 82k miles with the MP PCM, Flowmaster 40 series, 3923s and a 14x3 open K&N.
Lowest I have every gotten was 10.5, highest was 20. Oddly enough, I got 12 mpg pulling a 2200 lb trailer in 90 degree weather with the A/C on full blast.

After reading all those posts with reported MPGs of over 17, I thought my 5.9 must be a Guzzler. I get about 13 MPG combo HW & City and I like to hear my Gibson exhaust.........
I would like to know if you noticed much (or any) improvement with the MSD 6a. I'm thinking of getting one. I saw/used a demo display that compared a stock ignition spark with the MSD spark. There was a remarkable difference. Is it worth $150 +/- ????

It seems iI have a magic R/T! Looks like everyone has the brutal gas mileage of under 15. I have checked and double checked my mileage calculations in both standard and metric, and yes, I am getting 19 mpg. I know this is above all the mileage quotes in the magazines (and on here) but I don't know why. I did hit a deer once and the truck had to be almost entirely re-wired for various reasons, it was a $10 000 claim. I don't believe they replaced the computer and I didn't notice any change in mileage from before. Don't ask me why, but I'm not complaining. This is the third Dakota in our family.

Re Mds 6A I have NOT noticed anything different with the addition of the K&N and the 6A, I am new to Dodge, all the old Chev tricks I knew do NOT seem to work in the R/T 360 I am having a computor analysis done of the cam specs to see if there is something wrong with the signal to the computor thingy. At the dealer I purchased the truck from,the service dept was have a "computor program" ? written to fool the motor into thinking it had about 30,000 mile on it in the hopes that this would improve nileage. I hold out no hope for any major improvements for the R/T unless the cam is replaced with the Ram stock cam and suffer the reduced horse power and major loss of torque.

I put the K&N Cold Air Intake on and now I just want to stomp on the gas all of them time. It is so hard to resist giving it gas and hearing that V-8 breath loud. I have heard that the bed cover is about the best thing for MPG, but I have not noticed a major change in MPG with the K&N.

I have a 2000 cc dakota sport 2wd 4.7 V8. I have the overhead powerconsule. Driving straight ways on Highway i get about 19-21 mpg(according to how level the highway is). When in town that goes down drastically(proboly cuz of my heavy foot). The only mod is my K&N Air FIlter.

I asked my service manager about a break in period to and seeing an increase in mpg. I was told no. I spoke with a friend who works in the dealership. He told me you should see a diffrence at your first oil change. With a 5050 mix city highway I have been getting 8-9.
When you folks install the K&N are you putting in just the filter of the whole system?

That can explain why in just a couple days of a lil driving eats a 1/4 tank! I knew something was up, heh. It does fine on the highway though, it's mostly just the city that's a b!tch. I've even tried driving old lady style, but that doesn't last long...

The old lady driving dosn't make a diffrence I tried it too. I was told that creeping around kept the truck out of its power band. I dont know what to think. I have already tried to trade the truck in. Dodge doesnt care thats for sure.

The best thing you can do for mileage is to bump up the timing. There are only 2 ways to do this that I am aware of. The ICON controller and relocate the crank sensor. Next go to all synthetic fluids if you live in a cold area. If the ram has two fans on it (an electric and the water pump model) removing the belt driven fan will help alittle on short trip driving. If it only has the belt driven fan going to electrics is good for about 2 mpg.
